Hey guys,

I've been planning to upgrage my PC. My current system spec. are in the 3 screenshots i've attached below.

I dont have loads of money so i cant buy/assemble an entirely new PC.

Want i want is a faster processor hmm, like a Core Duo, a lot more RAM with a good GFX card which can play all the latest games.

Currently my motherboard supports SD-RAM, now since SD-RAMs are out and gone, i will have to go for a motherboard which will support DDR-RAM.

I'm kinnda confused as to what all things can i use from my current system and what all do i need to buy.

Ofcourse i will need to a buy a new GFX card and RAM.

So i need ur help as to what all parts should i go for which will make my PC run and play all the latest games without costing me a fortune.

My main priority is gaming on my PC. We can have a little discussion over regrading what all should i go for, then it will be really helpfull.

**Im from NEW DELHI, INDIA. So if anybody from NEW DELHI can pitch in, that will be amazing b'coz he will be able to give me the exact price range and the place from where i can get it the cheapest.

Eagerly waiting for ur replies. Thanks.

hey tutsi, i'm from new delhi,
imo... u should go for an intel core2duo processor (not sure about the cost)
and 1gig ram...

should serve your purpose...

regarding the gfx card, sorry, i wont be able to guide u on that one....(dont have much knowledge about them)

for the prices and best possibilities, u should visit Nehru Place (if u live nearby u MUST go there). there u can get the best deals, and also, some people can guide you to get a good computer.
if u want to know the name of any shop, u can surely tell me, i know a few good shops there.

Okay Tutsi, I used to be like you but a bit better, I suggest you buy a cheap Intel 3ghz CPU for like $100-200 (AUD), 512mb or 1gb for $100-350 (AUD) and a up to date graphics card thats AGP, I used to have a 128mb ATI 9200SE ($70 AUD) but then upgraded to a decent but still old 256mb X800GTO but it works great now, it can run Cricket 07 at 1024x768 at full settings at around 30fps not bad for $200 AUD :D

where do u live in delhi? i might be able to guide you to a good place...

if you are buying a new motherboard you should go for one which supports DDR2 Ram and PCI-E graphics cards(the are cheaper than AGP).
I would suggest you go for a AMD X2 or Socket 939 processor.

Tutsi, i have talked to you so many times :p You know where i am from :p

Well here's the config i think should be best -

Pentium D 3 GHZ processor - somewhere around 6000. Give or take 100 or 200 maybe.
It could be a pentium 4 processor but future games will only support dual core processors :)

Motherboard - Asrock conroe 945G - 4000 ( Same give and take as above.)

Graphics card - Palit's X1600pro - 4500 ( Dont know currently of its availability, it was available some time before )
Or a XFX geforce 7600GS Extreme edition - somewhere around 7000 ( Give or take )

On the RAm front, opt for 1GBDDR2 RAM, preferably in dual channel mode. - Around 4000 - 4200. Dual channel may cost about 100 or 200 more.

Thats all ! And your pc will be a beast waiting to be unleashed !

I've pm'ed you the number of a very good pc dealer from which i take my parts and pc and get it AMC'ed, reparied etc.. Enjoy :)

Kshitiz your prices seem to be pretty high, I recently purchased(last week) Pentium D 3 Ghz it was around 3900 and 1GBDDR2 was around 2500.

Tutsi I also suggest you to go for dual core processor, there isn't that much difference in price between single core processor maybe around 800. And make sure that your motherboard has PCI-E slot.

but, would a single core supporting motherboard also support dual core processors???
wouldnt that add to the cost in a big way???

It depends upon the motherboard, I bought intel D945GCCR which supports Pentium 4, Pentium D and Core 2 Duo processor.

Sorry my bad Prakash - The one i was saying is 3.2 GHZ :) and i think it has 4 mb l2 cache,.......

Anyways the Asrock one is the best mobo available :)

it supports core 2 duo lineup upto the mighty core 2 duo E6700 !

Moreover, it has good overclocking options, and all backword compatibility as well ! In terms of performance it challenges even p 965 sometimes !

processor support depends on the socket provided on the motherboard. currently, it's LGA for intel and AM2 for AMD. AM2 should enjoy long support, although LGA is (kinda) future proof too.

well, i also live in delhi and has been helping people build configs. The best place in delhi is nehru place, particularly computer emporium. it got the best prices and long queues.;)

RAM - get kingston DDR2, costs around 3k.

graphics card: only invest in Dx10 cards.
the cheapest in 8500GT which costs around 6k, then comes 8600GT (around 8k) XFX is the cheapest and good.
MSI ones have DOT (dynamic overclocking tech) which gives nice boost to performance without burning the card excessively.

Man, im like sooooooooooooooooo confused after all that technical talks.

Ok, first things first, i think i will need to change my motherboard(Intel 845) coz currently it supports only SD-RAM and i dont think it doest supports the latest procesors, therefore, is outdated.

Now, which motherboard should i go for which will neither cost me too much but on the same hand will support all the latest processors.

Also, how much can i get for my old motherboard?

**I have a very limited buget for such a major upgrade. I have like a lil under 15 grands.(INR, ofcourse)
