Normally in my task manager it is explorer.exe but sometimes don't know why it becomes Explorer.EXE, with capital EXE. Is that normal?

They are not unnecessary. Most of the stuff is pre-installed OEM.

That's normal and its a crucial logon process. Try ending it and starting it again by typing explorer.exe to find out more.

explorer.exe is your user shell. It should live in c:\windows.

I believe there are trojans that uses a process that looks a bit like explorer.exe. Do you have a folder C:\windows\explorer ? because you shouldn't.

End the processes. If you end a legitimate explorer process all your icons and the start bar will disappear. You can start it again by doing <alt>+f then n and typing explorer. If you end an explorer process and nothing happens you probably have something you dont want installed.

Just to confirm, the link I provided was not for general housekeeping, it was for a specific problem Colin may have.

There are a quite of necessary processes there colin, i think the best way would be to recognise them and try uninstall them. I've had a bad experience with the auto remove utilities. Oh well it can only be me....

I was having the .EXE thing about a week ago and then i gave a computer scan with my kaspersky and it found 5 trojans and 2 or 3 adwares. I disinfected and deleted all of them and from then on it is .exe .
