ok, this could be a silly question but here is my problem

i recently got a new computer, it was made up for me by a shop they installed everything on there like windows and graphics card and so on, about 2 days or so after i got it it got a virus I'm thinking and windows wouldn't work properly eg, the start menu wouldn't show up none of my desktop icons would show, to do anything id have to ctrl, alt delete and go new task.

so i thought id just re install windows which i did successfully, this was about a week ago the i installed my graphics card and things but i now have no sound and the computer is saying i don't have a sound driver? i don't have anything that i can install to it eg. a disk. I got some good speakers too with my computer! :p

what can i do to get sound back?

You need the driver for your sound card. Did you get a CD with the System? Typically the motherboard's Cd should contain all the drivers, so you should contact the vendor to provide you the CD or the specific driver.

Is your graphics card integrated with the motherboard or you have purchased a separate card? If it is integrated, probably the sound drivers are in the same CD you installed the graphics driver from.

Which windows are you using? XP or Vista? Maybe we can get the driver off the internet.

yer my graphics card i integrated, im using XP, is there a way to get one off the net?, ill try stuffing around with the graphics card CD

You need to tell us what sound card is integrated in the motherboard to find the drivers from the net.
The best would be trying the CD, It should be in there.

Anyway, do this:
Right click on My Computer, and select Properties
Go to Hardware tab, and select Device Manager

In the window that opens, check in the sound devices, if any driver is missing (generally it will have a small yellow exclamation mark in its icon).
There may be a possibility that there is an unknown device being shown.
Take a screenshot, and post it here.
Let's see if we can determine anything from it.

that help?

Yes. You need to install a lot of drivers.
Does the Graphics Cd you've got has ASUS written on it?

You need to install the drivers for Audio, Ethernet, serial port etc. They will all be in the same CD.

Mate i think there is a software to recognise the name of every driver needed so that you can search it off the net. I will search that software and then give you the name.
