How would you structure the ECB?

With Andrew Strauss looking certain to take the ECB Director role, there seems (more than usual!) a real anger from England fans. I haven't spoken to one person who is happy about this, and I have also not read any articles where the pundits seem happy either!

So, I thought it would be fun if we can try and find an ECB structure and starting 11 we could all agree on.

It will be great to hear everyone's arguments and see if we can make a decision, as the ECB seem totally inept at making good decisions and taking our Cricket Team forward!

The tricky thing about Cook is we still need the player for now, we can't be looking for 2 new openers, however we need to move on for the captaincy. (if the Australians thrash us on home soil then Cook is probably done for regardless.)

Lyth seems to be the next in line for the opening slot. Is Robson a contender? He's scored some county runs I believe.

#01 Alastair Cook - Despite the 'poor' series result, he will set play.
#02 Opener - Now we go into a big summer with it wide open again.
#03 Gary Ballance - Safely locked in at number 3.
#04 Ian Bell - Not a great series but still a class act.
#05 Joe Root - Leave him at 5.
#06 Moeen Ali or Ben Stokes
#07 Jos Buttler - Keeping still needs work.
#08 Adil Rashid - Depending on the wicket and what spin options.
#09 Number 9
#10 Stuart Broad - Still one of our better bowlers.
#11 James Anderson - Hope for a one last big hurrah this summer.

I don't know enough about Mills to comment, but I do think you need wickets from your third seamer. Finn (is he still in the picture?) over Jordan.

The ECB should have the chairman at the top. In 10 days time that will be Colin Graves. He should be the man who leads the ECB and represents it to the ICC.

The chairman should sit on a board. The board would involve a business manager, a representative of the counties, a representative of the men's national team, a representative of the women's national team and a representative of the youth teams. That's a board of five people (including the chairman).

The one representing the men's national team, since that's who we are most concerned with, would be the manager - to borrow a term from football. The manager would have control over everything to do with the team, and therefore the head coach position currently occupied by Peter Moores would be abolished. The manager would select the squad, pick the team and be responsible for it wherever it was playing. The captain would still be the one who deals with the media.

This streamlined system, albeit one that needs refining, would in my opinion make for a leaner, more focussed ECB.

This. I think the DoC or whatever title we give it, needs to be a properly accountable figure, responsible for appointing any coaches, any selectors, and the captain.

Therefore, the buck stops with the captain for on-field performance, and the DoC for general philosophy, selection and longer-term performance.

This person should under no circumstances be Andrew Strauss.[DOUBLEPOST=1430856473][/DOUBLEPOST]

It is remarkable that Graves has managed to fatally undermine his whole tenure even before taking office.
