Hey guys,

I just picked up this game and I have never played it before, I am just wondering how you guys all approach a match? What fields do you set? Where do you bowl to a batsman etc.

I have lost all my matches so far and seem to be terrible at it, I need some tips.

Standard line and length when I'm bowling most of the time.. normally on two aggression bars, decreasing against batsman scoring runs, increasing against tailenders against spinners on a turning wicket.

In one day format on one aggression bar until field goes back, and then to 0.

When batting in county mode I generally start on one bar for the openers, gradually move them up to two bars, then to 3 bars (normal) when they are in or almost in. If wickets are in hand and runs on the board, towards the end of a session with a fully in batsman I may stick them on aggressive for the last 20mins to punish the tired attack (not in the first session in the day mind ;) )

In one day matches, I generally try to pick attacking mindset batsman, set them to 3 aggression bars from the end and with 10-15 overs left depending on wickets left set them and every batsman to come on V.aggressive (one bar from the end as they seem to play and miss on full v.aggressive)

In 20-20 games you can afford to pretty much have all batsman on v.aggressive throughout. Just try to have an all rounder or two, and aggresive batsman.

Just some basic ways I play the game, you can work out any more beyond these yourself :)

Hope maybe a tiny bit of it is useful ;)

Nope that's just a standard simple way to play the game and do ok, but from there you experiment ;)

For example, I might get a fast bowler to bowl short of length on a hard track against an out of form batsman, or tailender and at the other end have a bowler who can swing the ball pitching it up. If it doesnt work for an over or two revert back, or try something else.

With my pace bowlers I find 2 aggression bars works well, its still a couple of slips, and one or two men on the boundary for catching. Whilst if the wicket is turning and I'm looking for wickets, have a close in field for a spinner for any mistimed drives or blocks.

You try things out, some work, some don't :)

I always start my bowlers on 4bars for both one dayers and county and never go any higher. With normal line and length but once a computer batsmen gets in the mid 20's i start to vary my line an length. Then when they get to mid 40s i drop my bowlers to 3bars against them.
Ihardly ever go lower than 3 bars and hardly ever go higher than 4 bars unless i get desperate.

When im batting in one dayers i start at 4-5bars depending on batsmens form and slowly move up as there confidence grows but never use full aggression.

In county i start at 2 and maybe move them upto 4 once there set if there scoring too slowly, and 3 if there going ok.
When batting with tailenders i drop the tailender to 1 bar and the batsmen upto 5.

But its all just trial an error find what works best for you and stick with it.

I always have my bowlers on full agression at a normal length in both forms of the game, bowling to a batsmans weakness. Although in OD Games I do move the field out to the most defensive. My opinion is that the bowlers are always gonna get chances and you just need a good attacking field to take the chances. Batting wise I tend to start on 2 bars and move it upto 3 after about 60 deliveries although if they are scoring at a good s/r I leave it down. I attack part time bowlers or if my batsman are in providing I'm not in trouble.

In OD My batsman play with 5 bars of aggression and this only goes down if I lose 3 wickets within the first 15 overs. I find this to be more productive when chasing/setting large totals. Winning both divisions of the county game in consecutive years (OD and FC) seems to back this up. Obviously more agressive if needs be.

When I' batting I always have 3 bars in test and 4 or higher in ODI's, when i'm bowling I look at the batsmens prefrences and go agsinst them with a agressive. If the two batsmen are settled then go set a defensive feild until you get a wicket, and repeat the process.
