England v India, 3rd Investec Test, Ageas Bowl, 3rd day : Moeen Ali banned from wearing 'Gaza' wristbands | Cricket News | England v India – Investec Test Series | ESPN Cricinfo

The ICC equipment and clothing regulations do not permit the display of messages that relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes during an international match. Moeen Ali was told by the match referee that while he is free to express his views on such causes away from the cricket field, he is not permitted to wear the wristbands on the field of play and warned not to wear the bands again during an international match.

Interesting stance taken by the ICC, when Messrs Olonga and A. Flower of Zimbabwe wore armbands in the 2003 opening game in Zim to protest against Mugane's regime there were no objections from the ICC, be it before or after the protest was done.

Now we shouldn't get into the specifics of the ongoing war between Israel and Gaza. The thread is meant to discuss solely the ICC ruling and give our opinions as to why we agree with it or not from a cricketing administration point.

I know, I believe it is stupid and biased against Ali. Why were the Zimbabweans allowed to do what they did? Why are the England team allowed to wear "Help the Heroes"?

the answer is simple, politically motivated bias WITHIN the ICC. Their rules clearly state: ""Players and team officials shall not be permitted to wear, display or otherwise convey messages through arm bands or other items affixed to clothing or equipment unless approved in advance by the player or team official's Board. Approval shall not be granted for messages which relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes."

So why are certain people allowed and others not? Especially considering this is an humanitarian cause.
