No. Tendulkar declined, but in seperate interviews, Laxman, Harbhajan Singh, Dhoni AND Kumble all said they would have liked to captain.

If I was Harbhajan or Laxman I'd love to be Captain too, as at least then I'd get to play all the time. Neither of them are set in stone for the Test side. Out of the best 11 it was Dhoni or Kumble, they didn't want Dhoni to do it, so plumped for the most experienced guy who wanted to do it. It's kind of like being named Captain in football in your 50th International.

Surely all this does is delay the appointment of Dhoni as captain? Things have hardly been going badly for him, obviously he lost today and a lot of Indians can be fickle and the lost today but even they can appreciate the good job he's done so far but I guessif they want to delay it for a few series in the tests then it's easier for them to not take the risk and see how he goes in ODI's

I feel that they want to wait for Dhoni to secure his place in the team. Currently, he is not a certainty due to his uncertain keeping and inconsistant batting in Test cricket.

That's an interesting call. He's a good player and he's been playing for a long time, so I suppose he can't do too badly.

FANTASTIC! Kumble deserves it for loyally serving the country so well. He has a very good brain. Only thing is, he is pretty similar to Dravid in that he has less aggression. But he is known to be pro-active, and has a good record leading his state team Karnataka.

This will help Dhoni settle down as vice captain in test matches, and then take over later after maturing (as Chappell said, an Australia series will finish him off nicely as a leader and cricketer).

Jumbo! :happy I expected this one too to happen and it happened! He is the only Indian bowler currently which i have huge respects and he deserves to be a captain.

But, one thing, he won't be a aggressive captain( aggressive not in terms of bowling but in terms of captaincy)...Likely to be Dravid like captaincy, but but, he has huge respect from all the players in the team. So, i wish him to succeed well.
