In Admin's ongoing commitment to the site, and to ensure the quality of the forums is maintained for the benefit of all our members, and after listening to our members we have decided to introduce a pilot Infraction Level Scheme.

All Staff will now have the ability to award 'Infractions' for any post made which does not fall within our rules and general guidelines as to what is considered a satisfactory post.

Infractions is a system based upon the Yellow/Red card system in football. Each Infraction is like a yellow card, a warning. Each warning carries with it penalty points and an expiry date

Get too many Yellow cards and you will receive a Red Card (mod preview followed by automatic bans). The more points you get, the more severe the ban.

The initial Infraction levels being introduced are as follows:

Infraction Level using Extend feature (Yellow Cards)

Name of Infraction....................Points........Expiry date

General Warning.........................0pts...........7 Days
Txt spk.....................................2pts...........7 Days
Inappropriate Language...............2pts...........7 Days
Inappropriate sexual references.....3pts..........7 Days
Avoiding the swear filter...............3pts..........7 Days
Trolling.....................................5pts...........7 Days
General Spam.............................5pts...........7 Days
Ignoring moderator instructions.....5pts............7 Day
Insulted Other Member(s)............5pts............7 Days
Continual disobedience................10pts..........21 days
Racism.....................................20pts..........21 Days
Serial Offender..........................30pts..........3 Months

Infraction Groups (Initial Red Card)

Exceed 10+ points = being put on moderation preview (posts need to be approved by moderator before being posted on the forum for all to see)

Automatic Ban (more severe Red Cards)

15+ points = 1 day ban
20+ points = 1 week ban
30+ points = 2 week ban
40+ points = 1 month ban
50+ points = 3 month ban
60+ points = 6 month ban
70+ points = 1 year ban

So how it works is like this. For example, a staff member notices a post that is clearly spam. He awards the General Spam Infraction to the user. The user has 5 points added to their username, and the 5 points will stay attached to that user for 7 days from the Infraction awarding date. After 7 days the 5 points would be removed from the Username

We are however utilising the Extend feature for all of our Infractions (except General warnings).

From the Vbulletin Help Page ;)

When this option is enabled a user will receive extended expiration times if given a second infraction that matches an existing active infraction. For example, a user is given an infraction for spamming posts that expires in 1 day. An hour later this user is given another spamming posts infraction. Since the user already had an active spamming posts infraction, this new infraction's expiration time is added to the end time of the previous infraction. Effectively, this new infraction will now end 1 day and 23 hours later instead of the default of 1 day. If the user was given a third infraction, it would be added to the end of the second infraction as well.

So if you keep getting pulled up for the same offence within a short space of time, all the points for each offence gets totalled up and the expiry date of all the offences get accumulated, meaning you have to wait longer for the Infraction points to be removed from your Username.

Mod Preview/Bans

At any moment in time, your current accumulated Infraction point total is calculated, and this point total is checked against the Infraction Group/Automatic Bans section

E.g you current Infraction points total is 12. This means you are subject to mod preview until your points total drops below 10.

E.g. your current Infraction points total is 23. This means you are subject to a week ban.

So please bear with us as we introduce this pilot scheme to the forums. We will obviously monitor how things go, and will fine tune and tweak it accordingly to the betterment of us all.
