ECB Press Release – 1st March 2009

It has been announced today that a new format for the County Season will be implemented with immediate effect. Counties will be limited to have a squad of 20 players, but will now be allowed to have up to four overseas players in their squad. However, in each match counties will be limited to fielding two of these overseas players. The England selector Ashley Giles said that the aim was to ‘help bring on young English players and to have international call ups have less of an impact on the county season.’ This announcement is sure to cause some controversy but only time will tell if the counties will benefit from this new legislation.

The Diary!

Okay, so here is how it is going to work. I would like all the counties to be controlled by you – the Planet Cricket users! Now the ultimate aim is that you only control one team so to start off with I will let you choose one. Then, if we are struggling I may let you have two teams each. I will be in control of the England international cricket team so in effect this is a two in one diary with the county season and England’s international season.

You will be able to make transfers with other teams and also sign free agents which I will post a list of soon. This game will be using Cricket 07 for PS2 and I will autoplay the county matches with Journalistic reports and scorecards from every match. England Internationals will be given slightly more coverage and I will also post a full calendar of important dates when all of the squads have been established, this is because I cannot start the season until I know the 20 players for every county so I can edit this in squad management.

So to start off with the next update will be all the teams and the players they have so far. I have edited the squads to as close to the 2009 teams as I can so obviously some teams will have less players than others. You MUST make the team have 20 players.

I am going to let people pick teams on a first come first serve basis starting now!!! I hope you all enjoy this!
