Is Sourav Ganguly the best Indian captain ever?

Dont really know any of the other indian captains to make an educated decision.

From what I've seen of him at Australia i would say no. Even though i haven't seen any other Indian captains b4. I think he only wins, because he has a great batting line-up.... Well for test matches anyway

No. I don't think he is that good a captain ...
I think he is at times too defensive.
He plays for the draw and not for the win at times.

Well I haven't seen any others but he leaves a lot to be desired tactically just judging from their tour of Australia- can't say either way without knowing the other captains though.

I would say yes.....but he is definately not one of the best in the world.....not unless he starts scoring consistently. At the moment he is more like a captain of a strong team. However it is true he is largely responsible in turning India from poor travellers to a force to reckon with. His aggression is very similar to that of Nasser Hussain. Will never give up till its all over. However his personal form has hit a downward slide since becoming captain. He is the weakest link in the strong Indian batting lineup.

I can't really decide. As madmattg said, not many young Australians know the other Indian captains.
From Duffarama.

Don't comment if you don't 'know' any other indian captains. Ever heard of Sachin Tendulkar. Hmm, Mohd. Azharuddin anybody ? Kapil Dev, Sunny Gavaskar, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, Bishen Singh Bedi, ever heard of any of those ?

Not to mention Ajit Wadekar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Kris Srikkanth etc.

From what I have seen since Ganguly has taken over the captionship is that he has kept all the players together and the team is performing well due to that fact. This hasn't occured in Indian cricket for a long time, it may come as a shock to many of the non-indians, but for a long time there were lots of internet conflicts within the team. The last team that was held together was the 83 world-cup winning side under Kapil Dev as captain.
But as far as on-field captainship goes....I haven't seen the other captains in action too much, so I can't comment on thier captainship, but from the past few captains Ganguly has been the best, but the best captain, according to my father, India has produced was the youngest test captain ever, till Taibu become the youngest, Mansur Ali Khan Patuadi (the man who only played cricket with one eye, he had lost his left eye in an accident)
