Knocking In Machine

I was wondering if anyone has seen one of these machines or has pics, and could tell me how they work.

Because buying bats over the years, I have been offered a machine knocking in process which takes ten minuets, as opposed to six hours recommended for hand knocking in. Are there any risks with machine knocking in? Because I was told it shortens bat life, and I can prove that theory wrong by using a bat for four seasons.

Depends how good your bat is and whether you want to risk it. I was always under the impression that the more you put in the more you get out (literally and metaphorically). You can't beat a wee hammer and some elbow grease.

The machine is more for busy people I suppose, who can't bother spending six hours of free time during a week to wack their bat with a mallet. (which I personally find can be quite relaxing at times)

i find the machine doesnt do a good enough job, i still end up knocking it in with a mallet

My shop does a service to hand knock the bat in for you

i worked in a cricket shop last year and the machine is sort of like one of those big rollers(big round wheel),it takes like ten or fifteen minutes tom kn ock in.you have to have some there moving the bat around as far a si can remember.

Thanks sachin now I have an idea on how one of those machines work, and what happens every time they disappear into a back room with my bat.

Just for curiosities sake, what exactly is the need for knocking in a bat. I've never played any 'hard-ball' cricket and thus have never needed to do that. I've heard my cousins telling me to knock-in a bat using a ball tied to a string on the ceiling but this seemed pretty dodgy to me. So why exactly is this done?

umm knocking in hardens the wood making it when you hit the ball ,sweeter so to speak. the best way is buy a wooden mallet get them for cricket shops about $25 australian. id go for the most expensive one, because you dont want to ruin your bat. start hitting slightly then hit harder each time do it for about 4 hours are you set

What i do is get a rope get a plastic ball get a tennis bat get a needle.The i stick the needle in the cieling hanging it up with a rope then griping with the plastic ball and I practice my batting.This thing has helped my alot in my batting and right now i am doing it lol.

What has this to do with knocking in bats??
I haven't knocked in my bat, play with tennis balls more.
