Lancashire County Cricket Club has revealed its eagerly-awaited plans for the radical re-development of Old Trafford cricket ground, set to transform the historic venue into one of the country's premier sporting destinations.

The Executive of Trafford Council on Monday evening unanimously approved the proposals, part of an innovative sports-led regeneration strategy for a 50-acre mixed use neighbourhood in Old Trafford. A planning application for the first phase of the new stadium development will be lodged imminently with works potentially starting in early 2009, and phased over consecutive years until completion in late 2012.

To be honest, I don't like the idea, looks horrible.

They could spend all that money on Osama Bin Laden doing a rain dance, it will change nothing, your weather stinks!

I saw this yesterday, not sure I like it much either. Not sure it'll get built at the moment with the credit crunch and all either.

Same as has already been said, just looks like they're building two massive postboxes and in the process, spoiling the pavilion.

2 T20 leagues will make a big difference to the coffers of Cricket clubs. The Kent project has hit the wall, hasn't it?

Apparently, there will be no County Championship cricket there in 2010, but still manage to find enough to play the Twenty 20's there. What a coincidence.:(

Yep, all of the first class games will be played at either Blackpool, Liverpool or 2 other venues.

IT looks more like Cricket revolution stadium..

Yep, they didn't get the contacts signed up quick enough because of a legal challenge and obviously now nobody wants to build houses. I did here a rumour that work might start on parts of the project this winter, I suspect Floodlights (as ECB grant is available) and the Hotel (which would I suppose pay for some of the refurbishments). But I'm pretty sure when I turn up to watch Kent play Derbyshire or someone next season, It'll be the same tired looking ground.

TBH, I don't think 2 T20 leagues will make a great deal of difference, entrance money plays such a small part in counties budgets, its all about the money from the ECB (Basically Sky money). Can't see Sky paying any more for cricket can you?

Capacity will be 25,000 with temporary seating? Surely England needs bigger test grounds, a major development that will take several years and only increase capacity by about 5,000?

Holy crap though, I hope we don't succumb again to the levels of that wretched match.

Nice one, Thurya.:D
