India's prospects looked good when Javagal Srinath utterly bamboozled the Australian top order in the first innings. But, a failure to dislodge the ever consistent Bradman and the hard hitting duo of Lindwall and Johnson cost them as 'The Don' and Arthur Morris struck back with a vengeance in the second innings.

Nonetheless, the sight of seeing both Bradman and Tendulkar piling on the runs for their respective teams was one to behold.

Actually, I did not know he averaged just 6 against them until after I posted the match, after which I felt like killing myself 'cause he ended up overperforming.

His failures against the West Indian quicks are stuff of legend, even though he was only a youngster at the time who was unfairly thrown to the wolves on his debut series. Simular to Cullinan failing against Warne, Agarkar against Australia, Kohli against England this summer etc. Something a true cricket fanatic cum league manager such as myself needs to know.

While the pitch was clearly underprepared by the groundsman, it was lack of application to go with a couple of questionable selections that hurt West Indies the most. They were ripped apart by the fiery pace of Morne Morkel in the first innings.

In the second, it was the veteran Shaun Pollock who nullified them with his impeccable accuracy. Pollock finished the match with demonic figures of 21-8-16-4, conceding at much less than a run per over. And with Brian Lara failing to score big, the West Indians collapsed yet again to go down by an innings in a depressingly familiar fashion to dark days of the late 1990s.

Flat pitch, although that doesn't guarantee runs when you're up against a lethal bowling attack and have a couple of underperforming openers.

Also, the naturally aggressive Miandad isn't suited to the No 3 position which should usually be occupied by someone with a more defensive sheet anchor-like approach. One of Shoaib Mohammed, Rameez Raja or Ijaz Ahmed might just fit the bill.

Great come back win for us,largely due to our top 4 in 2nd innings,but the batting collapse in 1st innings was a unexpected thing,but the lads bounced back strongly which the mighty aussies always does.

Disappointed with the 1992-98 WI. While that timeline they would miss good like Eldine Baptiste, Tony Gray and Reon King, they could have added the likes of Patrick Patterson (!), Nixon McLean, Cameron Cuffy or Vasbert Drakes (ODI debut in 1995) instead of having to play Rose and Browne. They could have had another batsman in for Browne. If you like to have 3 keepers in the squad for some reason, Floyd Reifer is your man.
