Microsoft Account Security Alert?

Hi, today I received this e-mail:

I have very little knowledge when it comes to computers so any help would be much appreciated, anyone else had this before? I haven't received a code to verify my account either. Should I wait till tomorrow to contact Microsoft?

PS: I have run a full scan on my comp and there are no threats/viruses.

Log out, log in again and change the password to something which is totally unrelated to the current password.

That didn't work i'm afraid, couldn't change my password without a verification code.

I've spoken to Microsoft on live chat and now i'm awaiting a response from a specialist team.

I will let you know what happens once I hear from them.

I've tried the validation test about 5 times without any luck so I have given up after being told that ''this is the only way to recover your account''. The account is 7 years old and I cannot remember the security question password which is where I think I've been failing on. I think this is poor from Microsoft and that there should be an alternative way of proving that the account is yours.
