Modi tried to undermine ECB and set up parallel IPL in England

The BCCI has issued a show-cause notice to Lalit Modi, the suspended IPL commissioner, after receiving an email from the ECB alleging activities by Modi that are "detrimental to Indian cricket, English cricket and world cricket at large." It is believed that the charge pertains to efforts to set up a parallel IPL in the UK, with the help of the counties, that would undermine the ECB.

According to PTI, which said it had a copy of the document, the five-page notice issued on Thursday referred to a meeting Modi held on March 31 in Delhi with representatives of English counties including Yorkshire, Lancashire and Warwickshire, in which he is alleged to have discussed a parallel IPL in England and Wales in which eight existing franchises would bid for nine counties in UK

What a snake Modi was, I hope we have seen the last of him.

:laugh:laugh

We will never ever see Modi again do not worry!!

Damn Modi, sorry your world domination plans didn't work out.

Without the BCCI, cant see what Modi can possibly do. Check out the irony, he set up the IPL to bury the ICL and called it a 'parellel unauthorized league'. Now he is thrown out of the IPL/BCCI and is desperately trying to create a parellel league outside of BCCI's help.

Knowing the BCCI, they will step in and crush any idea of setting up a parellel league.

Im glad (as Im sure most Indians are) that there is now a definite distinction between Lalti Modi and the BCCI/IPL.

One man was prostituting our beloved game and misusing the Indian passion for cricket to line the pockets of a few hundred people, the other is a cricket board (like them or not) that promotes the sport of cricket and bloods cricketers.

As i always say stuff like this proves why the ICC needs revamping into independent body. Or else another, Packer/Modi like figure can arrive in another 15-20 years with some dynamic idea to change cricket (although i cant see what that could be) yhat could undermine the global game.

Modi now is securely out of cricket and BCCI:laugh.

And OMG!
Some silly facts on Lalit Modi:
1) He was absent for a 12th grade examination for making himself to go to US and study, when his parents were forcing him to stay at India.:laugh
2) His father gave 500k to get a new car, for which, he bought Benz A class by paying EMI of one month.:laugh

lol, he just cant bow down while he had some respect. :facepalm:facepalm

parallel IPL in England and Wales in which eight existing franchises would bid for nine counties in UK

why would the counties agree to this if this did go ahead.

So hilarious how against Modi people are everywhere. From the e-mails posted on cricinfo, it's a shame that he didn't succeed in what he was trying to pull off. A league that would have made tons of money for the players - outside of India and Australia some of the lowest paid in any major sport - and the counties, while also drawing tenfold more fans to the grounds and on television than the current sham structure? Modi you scum!

Quite frankly I bought them right away myself, but from the way this "trial" is going, the charges against him that seem truly despicable, things like match fixing, embezzlement, tax evasion, are all likely false given that no solid evidence has been produced on any of these. Instead his "crime" was attempting to undermine the establishment of the BCCI, ECB, and ICC. The jury is out on the things Modi has done, but overwhelming evidence is there to prove that the BCCI is among the very most corrupt and incompetent organizations in sport and the ICC is little better. A Modi dictatorship would be superior to either of these. Make no mistake, these boards are in this for the money as well, not supporting cricket - at least with Modi this fact is laid out in front, the players will get paid and casual fans will care about the game again.
