Is there any topics were it covers the types of pitches? And what they do exactly? And pro and cons for the bowlers/batters?
Sorry if there is already a topic on this.
As with real life, flat and hard tracks tend to be better for batting with the ball coming onto the bat. Having no cracks means the bounce is true and less sideways movement or variable bounce.
By contrast, green pitches tend to offer more seam movement and any softness in the pitch results in low bounce and a slow track which all players must take into account. Equally hard pitches create more bounce which is problematic when bowling short or playing forward when batting.
The overhead conditions play a part in swing bowling, overcast/humid conditions or a stiff breeze will result in the bowler being able to shape the ball away from, or towards, the batsmen.
Dry pitches, both with and without cracks, will provide some spin off the pitch for the slow bowlers as the ball can "grip" the surface more.
As a batter you don't want lush green soft pitches ideally, nor the other way of hard dry pitches, though if they aren't dry and cracked it can work well for batting.
For bowling you want "a bit of something in it" so some green early on or some cracks to pitch on/into, the hardness depends on what you want to do with your pace, the soft pitches are great for "skiddy" bowlers who don't get much bounce anyway, and the hard pitches are great for tall fast bowlers who can make the ball leap.
