Having virtually done all there is to do in cricket, and with his exalted status within the game, it would have been understandable for Ponting to slowly ease into retirement - turn up in cruise mode, swing at a few deliveries, then wile away the warm Caribbean nights with some cold beer or some other brew and some spicy jerk. But while he might still partake of the cuisine and the cocktails the Ricky Ponting who turned up for the Hawksbills' game against the St. Lucia Zouks was anything but detached. So engaged was the Australian that if one had happened upon the game, and were there no lights and no coloured clothing, one might reasonably have guessed that Ponting was fully immersed in the cauldron of a scorching Ashes battle.
