I have been looking for a good program to remove lyrics from songs, me and a friend have been debating whether or not a song would be a good wrestling theme, in a fantasy sports type game. And well I wanted to remove the lyrics from the song to make it like a wrestling song.

Or something like that anyway, anyone know some good programs I can look at getting?

Thhis technique is known as "Karaoke". Search google and type "Karaoke maker". I already have.

You can only extract lyrics from songs which already have lyrics attached with them. Winamp Pro will automatically open lyrics dialog box displaying lyrics. You should search for midi files of that song. They most often always have lyrics attached to them.

Okay, thank you both for the help,I didn't know what to search for which is why I decided to ask. I will see how I go with the search and see if I find a program that'll assist, if not I will go the midi file search.

I'm not too familiar with sound, but I believe there are ways to get it done. Most have to do with the frequencies you want to block out from a song. I guess Google will be your friend.

Well, Just google around for some similar Song tracks. Or FL Has some great samples, Just request the track you want or wait!, just make one. It's easy. ( i'm saying this because i', Family have been in music field .).

If you want to get really creative (add effects etc), I recommend Tapestrea from the folks at Princeton Soundlab.

Simply...

Give me the name of the program which does it so I can look it up and download it.

If you really want to use it in a good place then let me tell you that NO program out there is perfect in doing this. Some leave traces of the voices, others kill other sounds in the song aswell. I am telling because I made a research on this already some time ago.

ok, ive done a degree based on sound (music tech) and i will tell you right now, if you are looking to take a song with a voice singing on it and are trying to remove the voice, it is not possible, the human voice resonates at around 3 Khz, the best you could possible do is to use a multi band compressor and decrease the volume around this frequency, however this will also decrese the volume of anything witch is at the frequency, which in most wrestling type soungs would be the main focus frequency of an electronic guitar! you would destort the original timbre of the other instrumnets at this frequency and would, in short, make it sound crap.

if, for example, you wanted to remove the snare or kick drum, this this is much more possible, at they are sounds which use a set frequecny range and can be reduced in volume without effecting to much else, but a human voice changes pitch and frequency constantly and make it impossible to remove without effecting the rest of the song

You can probably take the lyrics out of rap though because the pitch of voice never changes because it is monotone crap :p.
...I hope your not serious. The pitch does change of course.

Anyways, L'666 would it be easier to do it to a rap song?

not really no, wouldnt really make to much difference as just because a vocal style is useing a single note doesnt mean it isnt useding different frequencies due to effects such as syballance, which is the way rappers make the start of words stand out by over pronouncing them causeing a type of natural harmonic distorsion on different frequencies to accur during the recording process.

in short hooper, no
