Not a great start for Asia XI. Karunaratne and Iqbal got them to a great start for the first wicket partnership of 49 runs. Both got dismissed on a track that staying low, seaming as well as spinning on Day 1 of this warmup match. Cheteshwar Pujara stood his ground and kept playing some wonderful shots and saw other batsman come and out quickly. From 49 for 1 to 88 for 6, Asia XI saw a dramatic collapse thanks to Stokes, Lyon and Holder. In the end the pitch was doing way too much for the batsman and Asia XI got bowled out for mere 154 runs in just 51 overs. Seeing this is a 3 Day game with 110 overs per day, there is plenty of time and who knows we might even see ROW XI taking a lead by the end of the day today.

To be continued...

Run outs! Run outs! Run outs! ROW XI started with Bumrah getting rid of Warner to a beautiful delivery. Kane Williamson tried grinding it in and looked like building partnership with Elgar before a mindless run out. Soon after his wicket Afridi got rid of dangerous Smith while Kane kept defending and scoring runs. 154 suddenly looked 500 as Joe Root got run out as well. Soon followed Kane who again was run out. ROW XI dug their own grave and eventually got bowled out for 112. Asia XI got a lead of 42 runs which they would have not dreamed about. Oh its still Day 1 and 15 overs remain.

Nothing changed for Asia XI who definitely look a bit weak compared to the ROW XI. Openers got to a great start like the first inning and Iqbal got to a well made 50. Pujara looked like composed himself and then came the Southee storm. Southee picked up 3 wickets in 3 overs. From 70/2 to 76/5, Asia collapsed once again. In the end ROW bowling was little too much for Asia as they get bowled out for 138, 16 runs less compared to first inning. The lead was something that helped them as they set ROW a target of 180.

ROW XI started their chase of 181 runs positively as Elgar and Warner scored 26 for the first wicket partnership before Elgar mistiming one to Khan off Bumrah. Run out kept hitting ROW XI again as Warner and Williamson departed for 40 and 12 runs respectively. Smith and Root kept hitting the bad deliveries and defended the good ones as they kept piling runs. Looked as if the pitch had got better on Day 3 of this 3 Day warm up game. Smith reached his well made half century and Root played the perfect partner as both hit 95 runs unbeaten partnership and helped secure ROW XI a win in the warm up match.

See you next time for the 1st test match between Asia XI and ROW XI here at Eden Gardens before flying to Lords to the second match.
