"I was a middle-order batsman who was asked to open and luckily for me, things went really well," Sehwag told Indian Express. "In fact, till date, as an opener I am just doing a job given to me by the team management. Given a choice, I would happily slide down and play in the middle-order because that's where I belong. But right now, I have a job entrusted to me and I love the responsibility, so no regrets at all."

Cricinfo - Sehwag still keen on middle order

What do you think? Should Sehwag go to the middle order and we add a classical opener in the opening slot?

I feel we should bring in Murali Vijay (or whoever specialist opener is there in domestic cricket) and push Sehwag to the middle order. This way, we can also get rid of Yuvraj Singh and also, we have two specialist openers after a long long time (last time was when Sadagopan Ramesh and SS Das batted together, I think).

Um no.

Sehwag simply said if he had to he could play middle order. I would rather him open and switch Yuvi for Badrinath in tests. It would be idiotic to bring Vijay in and just put Sehwag in Yuvi's place.

Err no. I'd rather have him up the order where he has excelled and Badri in the middle order than him.

But, once the reflexes start to slow and some members of the 'Terrific Three' retire and make room in the middle order, i'd be open to the idea. If you've got a solid opening pair, a fantastic number three like Badri backed up by Rahane and Pujara the bowlers will be in for a leather chase. After getting through all of that, they have to face the whirlwind Virender Sehwag at number 6 who would tonk any tired bowlers around. :D

Now isn't the time. In the future, maybe.

Absolutely positively NO. Apart from Sehwag and Gambhir we don't have a single opener in our country who is good or has been tested in the intl level. People will say Jaffer or KKD. The former, though he did perform superbly in this year's Ranji, has failed in the intl arena, and the latter? Seeing his batting, even a sixth division player will laugh. Another option is Murali Vijay. He is not bad, but why send a player, who has an experience of just one match, to open when you have in your team the best opening pair of the world right now?

I have a easy fix. Drop Yuvraj, play Sehwag at 6 and bring in Mukund to open.

:D

Mukund is a legend. So young, just 19, already has a 300 to his name.

Move aside Phillip Hughes.

yea but he doesn't open. Once Sehwag loses his form again Mukund should be the one to replace him.

It'll be Murali Vijay. Mukund is far too young still, but is a talent.

Pujara hit 3 triples in a month, not in a season. I think he had like 5 or 6, maybe more in the season.

he should go down for test

Kartick or Dravid should open with GG

Sehwag and Gambhir make such a great opening pair, why does he want to ruin that by going into middle order ?

Sounds like another Sehwag.

You need a batsman who can make runs on South African wickets if your team is going to be a world-beater. Not someone who can cash in on a flat-wicket and score triple hundreds.

I doubt any of your batsman will be able to do what Hughes did to South Africa in South Africa just recently. Not even Sachin or Dravid could reach those heights in those parts of the world. ;)
