Semi-final 2: Germany v Spain, Wednesday 7 July 2010 at 18:30 GMT

So, we will have a new World Cup winner! And I hope it's Holland - they've had so many near misses and have played some beautiful football over the years. Holland - the best team never to win the World Cup. Spain looked damn good though.

Amazing how the two finalists have probably played up to about half of their abilities.

What a match! The scoreline wasn't a classic but the actual play was brilliant. Wonderful passing was countered by excellent defending. No surprise that the goal came from a setpiece in the end, but what a header that was.

Enough of this stupid Octopus. I just hope he's wrong in the final so people realize how stupid they're being by listening to a tweaking octopus...

Actually I think the Octopus is only used for Germany matches, because he is located at a Sea Life center in Oberhausen.

Of course if he used for a lot of matches the win/loss ratio will fall.

That flinging octopus will predict the winner between Dutch and Spain as his semi final prediction was right.

IMO the Spain deserves the place in final! They were a better team than Germany last night ! The Young Germans did well to come so far and they will be a better team in the next edition of the WC. his WC career.

huh, Pretty cunning game played by Spain but I loved their planning and how they executed it.

Spain deserves to win this one.

Spain were definitely worthy winners last night and the final against Holland should be a cracker(I hope!). :D

The result of this match at least had consequences for one person.

Largest World Cup bet ever placed on Germany to beat Spain
By Brooks Peck

As emphatically as one could ever tell a psychic octopus to shove it, someone has placed a €500,000 ($631,000) bet on Germany to go against Paul the octpus' prediction and beat Spain in their semifinal match. U.K. bookmaker William Hill says the record bet was placed over the phone at 10/11 odds. If Germany wins, the caller, who is "based in Europe," will take €954,000 ($1.2 million).
