Graeme Smith Interview with the Media

Reporter: Graeme, what do you think of your chances?
GS: Well, I think we have a good chance, India and Pakistan are definetely beatable.
Reporter: How will you counter the "Master Blaster" Sachin Tendulkar?
GS: Shaun (Pollock) and Makhaya (Ntini) have been working on tactics to combat his style, they are also working on tactics to work against others like Dravid, Ganguly, Afridi and so on.
Reporter: What about when working against Akhtar and so on?
GS: We're still working in that.
Reporter: Thanks for that Graeme.
GS: No problem.

South African Highlights and Scores

First ODI vs Pakistan

South Africa
4/252 - 50.0 overs
Gibbs 92*
Razzaq 2/32
Akhtar 1/49

Highlights

1/62
Smith 23 - lbw.Razzaq
An inswinging half volley, Smith plays a leg glance, misses and thuds into the pads. The appeal goes up! He's out.

2/98
Rudolph 29 - c.Afridi b.Razzaq
Fast bouncer hooked away uncontrollably by Rudolph, right down Afridi's throat!

3/102
Kallis 2 - b.Akhtar
Very fast yorker, Kallis plays the on-drive, bowled!!

4/177
Van Jaarsveld 32 - run out
A mistakenly taken single results in Boucher being run out very short of his crease.

Alan Donald and Rameez Raja discuss South Africa's innings.

So Donald, is South Africa's score competitive?
Yes, considering Pollock and Ntini are at their best.
Gibbs did well didn't he?
Definetely, he played well. What I didn't understand was why were Razzaq and Akhtar bowling short to him?
They thought they could stick to their plan throughout the innings but it didn't work.

745938

Gibbs on his way to 92 not out.

A good inning by Gibbs and Ithink this score is competitive but they have to bowl really well now to win. They have to get some early wickets and Pollock is going to be the man to watch.
