strange, he may not have had a team when it came to the contract section of the game, and if no one offeres him one then they retire, happened to me with ian bell, i would of signed him but he only became availble in the 4th round of contracts and id allready spent all my budget
Well - while this happens more than people think (Dean Headley, Riocardo Elcock, Alan Igglesden etc etc) It's more likely that his county released him, and he was too expensive for another county to pick up...then they are lost for good.
In real life players sometimes come back from these things (Schofield, Ward (although he left again soon after),
DM Smith, (left Worcs to "decorate" then went Sussex) to even Agnew came back for a OD knockout game several years after retiring, but these subtleties are not reflected in ICC games..about time they were though isn't it ?
What about Anderson Cummings--retired for years then playing in the World Cup for a completely different country. Nothing so new about that really, Kepler Wessels played test and DOI cricket for Australia and South Africa, and Saqlain is considering his options to play for England this year.
