Michael Holding unveiled as West Indies coach

A decision has been made that has been applauded by Caribbeans.

Jamaican favourite Michael "Whispering Death" Holding has been appointed as the coach of the West Indies senior squad.

The 54 year old takes over from John Dyson, the former Australia batsman.

Holding is believed to have the passion that will bring about a revolution in West Indian cricket, which has been falling away in recent years.

He took 249 wickets in 60 Tests for the West Indies, famous for his silent approach to the crease when he was bowling and his extreme pace.

This will be his first experience as a cricket coach, since he became a commentator on the sport after his retirement. He will retain strong links with broadcasters, allowing for deep, in-depth interviews with him.

Holding will be in charge for the Tests and One Day Internationals against Sri Lanka and Australia in the Caribbean.

Talks of winning the World Cup in 2011 under his leadership may be premature, but Holding's reign promises to be the most interesting stage of the Windies' development for many years.

Nice to see "Mikey" back with the Windies. They need the strength back. Best of luck with this story Lee.
