Just as it looks as though Aces were finally going to do something to make the game interesting (add a career and a proper job market), Microsoft go and pull the rug out from under them. Typical bloody Microsoft! I mean, I prefer sims where you get to shoot at things, but no other simulator has dared to attempt to include the entire World to fly around! It got boring though, because it was just a load of disconnected flights. FS11 apparently, was going to solve that problem by finally including a career mode.

Edit: I know its a niche market, but I thought it deserved a mention. MS Flight Sim is one of the longest running series of software around.

And I think sam has happened for combat flight sims. There are'nt any true combat flight sims anymore; I was holding my breath for HAWX to be one, but it's just another arcade combat flight game. I still sometimes play the Lock-on. It's buggy, but its awesome. I hope hey release a follow-up of this game.

I haven't bought Lock-On because for some maddening reason, it has no dynamic campaign mode and I don't bother with flight sims unless there's a DC mode.

I have done a bit of looking around though, and it appears that there are one or two on the way:

Rise of Flight (WW1 sim)

And hopefully we'll see Battle of Britain Storm of War at some point this year...

I'd love a remake of the old classic KOTS, personally.

Microsoft did exactly the same for ES with Age of Empires. Was a bloody piss take. Ensemble Studios were really class and they go and disband them. Pathetic.

Do you think someone will pick up the Flight Sim ball and run with it?

Well I know that AOE has supposedly been taken up by the employees of ESO who have formed a new company, so maybe the same might happen to Flight Sim. Depends what resources they have available

That sounds like good news. I would definitely buy another FS game, if it had a proper career mode in it. And guns. Come on, guys, it can be an option that real 'flight sim nuts' can turn off!! Imagine how many more people would get the game if you could fly around in a Spitfire or something blasting slow cargo planes out of the sky!!

I guess you like arcade type of Combat flight sim along with Flight simulator. Try the demo of HAWX. It's arcade type of modern flight combat simulator with a dynamic SP campaign along with CO-OP, so you may like it.
Personally, I'm a combat flight simulator fan; I like to play the 'simulator' type of combat flight game (Flanker, Lock-on etc) rather than arcade type of combat flight simulator (JF IV, JF V, HAWX etc) .
MS does a good job with its CFS, with a mix of arcade and simulator gameplay mixed well. Hopefully, their latest venture will continue to impress us gamers.

Nope, I hate arcade sims, I'm with you I like the 'sim' combat sim games, rather than the arcade ones. Hoooold on, did you say there's another MS Combat Flight sim been announced? Tell me more!

My bad.. actually I mistook the publisher of BOB: Storm of War as MS rather than Ubisoft.
Have you tried Lock-on: Flaming Cliffs? I just bought it yesterday, and it's good. Basically, it's just an upgrade of Lock-on with bugs removed and a new plane.

Has it got a dynamic campaign? If so, I'm there!

Heard quite a bit of good things about Falcon 4: Allied Force. Wiki says it's also got a "fully dynamic and customisable campaign". Hardcore stuff - from what I heard, you might wanna give that a try.

Yeps, I've played that. The thing is, the explosions are rubbish. I mean, really terrible! And if a game is about flying for ages to drop bombs/shoot missiles at things, you need good explosions! Otherwise, it just takes the shine off the whole thing, in fact the graphics are rather hit or miss across the board. Now, if you mixed Falcon 4's depth with Lock On's graphics, you're onto a winner!

Plus, the theatres of the Balkans and Korea hold no interest for me at all. Thanks, anyway! :)
