Would.. no names mentioned because you know who you are.... please stop saying "thread bump" everytime someone takes the effort to find if a thread already exists and posts in that instead of starting a whole new thread.

If someone starts a new thread and one already exists then the response could quite fairly be, "use the search feature, topic already exists" but I fail to see how if someone has taken their time to find any already existing threads they can be critisized?

I read the rules and it mentions nothing either way other than chances are a thread you want to start already exists. So please inform me if I am wrong, and instead it would be better to have 5 threads seperated by a month each all with essentially the same posts or one thread on a subject that even when seemingly dead can get a second life when a new member joins and adds his input?

I think I know the instances you are talking about and those comments were not made by Staff Members, and you are quite right that it's not against the rules.

We've got no problem with threads being bumped for genuine reasons, in fact we encourage it. The problem is that it has become a game for some people to find the oldest thread they can and bump it with a worthless post.
By all means, please bump an old thread if you have something to add to it.
The line is slightly more blurry when it comes to GC threads as if you're doing a 'where is everyone from' thread/poll you obviously want a new one rather than to bump an old one. I've got no probs with the usernames one being bumped though. If in doubt or any questions PM me.

Cheers for the replies, I wanted to know either way where the Staff Members stood. I can understand your point Barmy about people finding any old thread and contributing nothing useful, essentially falls under spamming.

I have seen it happen here even in the records forums, where people hardly want to have to post all their pictures of records again so if someone searches out the existing thread makes far more sense.

Anyway, don't want to flog a dead horse, question answered, thanks chaps :)

Yeah, I agree with what has been said. I normally bump up an old thread instead of making a duplicate of one that's already there. Let's just hope no more people bump up threads for a bit of fun.

Just do what I do mate, if it's not already there and recent, it's not worth talking about.

Saves a lot of trouble.
