Steps:
1. Start the PC.
2. The moment you are starting it start pressing F5 key.
3. Various options to start the computer will be shown to you.
4. Choose Safe Mode and press Enter key.
5. Wait
6. The welcome screen will be shown with a new account named Administrator.
7. Log in with this account (it doesn't require a password).
8. Go to Control Panel > User Accounts.
9. Add/Remove accounts or remove passwords of existing accounts.
10. Restart the computer.
11. The account named Administrator will not be present on the welcome screen.
12. Log on to the account you created or the one that you removed the password.

Windows has great security right? Have a nice time ;)

That only works for XP Home Edition, Professional requires an Admin password to be set during installation. Obviously you can get around that too, if someone with malicious intent has physical access to a system, you are stuffed.

Wow, lucky I have Vista now:p

Thats a bit to easy isn't it?

If anyone wants their PC to be secure they will password protect the Admin account. So that method will not work.
But it can still be bypassed by creating a copy of cmd.exe and renaming it to logon.scr. Then replace the original logon.scr file with it. By doing this when you boot into XP and wait for the screensaver without logging in then instead of the screensaver you'll get a dos prompt with admin rights. You can change the password of any account by typing the following

net user user_name new_password
for eg: net user Administrator qwerty

This will change the password of the Admin account to qwerty.

I prefer using ERD Commander 2005 or Hiren's Boot CD, work like a magic.

This might be a stupid question, but why are you all teaching people how to hack someone else's XP account?

Ya Good question. What is someone reads this and hacks someone's PC and deletes some really important stuff.

this thread is for information purposes... it is not suggesting that you should go and hack into a computer. it is basically sharing knowledge, so that "such" hacks can be prevented on your own system.

Now you know what are the possible ways people can access your computer without you wanting them to, so start thinking about methods to stop these...

and btw... hacking is ethical - to point out security issues, and look for flaws and loopholes.. and the "bad" thing is called cracking.
