Trescothick Admits Ball Tampering

I remember there was quite a lot of fuss about this at the time (during the 2005 Ashes). Don't see why Tresco thinks it's a good idea to open this particular can of worms up at present.

Nice sensationalist headline for this thread by the way. I doubt he's the first person in history to suck on sweets and put spit on the ball and he certainly won't be the last.

It's called an autobiography.

I'm fairly certain it's common practice in most teams from various articles I remember reading out the time of it's providence. The sweet dissolves leaving sugar in the saliva which means it dries like a fine layer of polish when applied to a surface. ICC don't tend to say anything about it as it's so wide spread and accepted. A bit like those trousers with stripes for shining the ball, bit of a grey region but commonly accepted.

haha, English cheats ;P.

I want an answer, :D.

Truse the poms to cheat. They need all the help they can get. :p

But seriously, why would you tamper a ball at that level. You will obviously get caught or be guilty for cheating.

Gee, It is just stupid. Just play the game by the rules and you will have a great game of cricket. Ball Tampering is a bloody recipe for disaster.

Any different from using saliva to polish the ball, or throwing it into the dirt to roughen it up?

Is it only me that has actually known this for ages? It was said in the 2005 ashes that they were using mints!

they do it all the time in county cricket, my mate played a game for essex 2s and they all had lockets in their pocket haha
