He has never played at Test level before, what makes him a better candidate than Hughes?

His better technique

He can actually pull the ball -__-

So many tests to be played before Callum is back from injury. Bailey is also injured. I'd say White has a decent shot, so does Khawaja. Have to say, Klinger's stats are pretty amazing, he's done nothing wrong to really not be considered for a test spot, he has scored a mountain of runs. He's not a pretty player, in fact he's uglier than North and White, but runs are runs. I actually like Cosgrove, but he has that air about him that he would be a soft batsman and we just dont need that at 6, we need a tough guy in there, maybe M Hussey moves down for a stroke player at 5, Clarke at 4.

Klinger's a good player, but we probably need a player that is 26 and under, seeing as we have three 34+ year old batsmen in the side.

I rate Marsh's chances of getting in. His career stats are rubbish, but in full flight he is a much better player than that and they've seen that for themselves. In the last two and a half seasons, he's actually averaged 50 in FC, 38 in one dayers and 50 in T20s, yet it's the ODIs that he gets picked for! If nothing else, he gets 10 out of 10 for style and sometimes, you just want to see a sight worth seeing.

Agree with Angryangy. Stats don't do justice to this player.

LOL! No chance.

He certainly hasn't got the tempermant to be a test match batter and I couldn't say he was in our top 5 openers right now. He's to vunerable to the new ball imo and I dont think he can bat long innings.

Just reading back over this, most people were similar, but picking this one to quote, you were wroooooonnnnnggggggggg!

It's better to be wrong after basing an opinion on fact than be right for no good reason at all. One is a method for being right more often, the other is just randomness; anyone can flip a coin and choose a side. If the facts change then it is much clearer what the mistake was. Indeed the facts did change. Watson was getting caught on the crease, not so much any more. He wasn't a proven opener, but he is now proven now by way of continued selection. However, one fact is still the same, he's struggling to push on with big scores. You can still argue that his temperament or concentration still let him down in small ways.

Thankfully I was wrong. If he was going to be selected I wouldn't want him to be ████ every game.

But you couldn't blame me. At the time he averaged like under 20 at number 6 in the test team and he had opened for Queensland like 10 times and had 3 ducks and tons of low scores. He's improved his batting in general and would probably be scoring runs at 6 atm, which he wasn't doing before.

Watson has looked impressive as a test opener but he can also bat at the middle order and Hussey who scored most of his F.C runs as an opener should open in test matches.
