Is there any reason for their poor performances over the last 2-3 years? It seems like they have allot of talent on their hand but they just don't push them enough, some guys come in play a few tours and than they just disappear.

It just looks like their player development program is not really there and allot of their up and coming youngsters get injured too often, but yet they still have great fast bowling prospects and a bunch of all-rounders. Their real need is a quality spinner because in this day and age you cant play without one.

And the problem that i see is they have all these great fast bowling legends, all-rounders,batsman and some of the best captains and they don't even employ their services. You would think with all the great players that they have with great knowledge of the game that they could find a good coach and open some youth academys with those greats as coaches and instructors.

Powel, a great bowler for the West indies
Sahwen, a great batsmen always gets them runs

Sarwan, you mean?
They were actually in pretty good nick the last 2 years. They brushed away Pakistan with ease but just have lost form in the WC. Maybe the pressure of being at home?

the only success they had in the last 2-3 years was wining the ODIs at home against India and finals of champions trophy but in tests i dont remember the last time they won a series.

They can win some big games. They finished 1st and 2nd in the two Champions Trophies in the last 3 years. They've got talented veterans up the top of the order, Gayle, Chanderpaul, Sarwan and Lara; enough that they should always threaten to score big.

It's not like they can't find young talent, either. Ramdin is an exciting find who has played some of his best cricket against the best team. Taylor is also a great bowler in the making. Bravo and Samuels... there are more... these guys can play.

They can win a few ODIs, but rarely any Tests. In the last three years, they've fielded 43 ODI players and 37 Test players. Off field disputes frequently resulting in on field absences. Nevertheless, they can win some big matches.

A team that can't play test cricket, but can win a few ODIs screams poor fitness and discipline. In this team, intensity doesn't come in anything more than bursts and rarely does it come from two players simultaneously. In the field, there are too many passengers. One can make exceptions for the Brian Laras of this world, but men many years his junior actually field worse.

Guyanan hero Clive Lloyd postulates that all West Indies cricket simply needs to be played with a rigorous approach to fitness. For the top team to improve, lower grades must indoctrinate the players in good habits.

The fitness level of the Windies has always been a problem. They have become the new Pakistan where on their day they can beat any side but on their off day they can lose badly. They haven't had enough on days this world cup to move through. Their usually dangerous top order hasn't really fired and Taylor has lost his form from the Champions trophy.

The winidies Squad youth changes to much. They dont give players a long enough go to get the feel of international cricket. They have a lot of bowlers they are always swapping around.

Somehow it all started when Lara started playing for the windies. Not that it was his fault then. I think he should retire before the test in england therefore symbolising a new start for them. Statistically Lara is the worst captain they've ever had but has been appointed 3 times, the most.

I feel, the problem is with the bowlers. They are so inconsistently used. Infact, i feel, after Walsh-Ambrose pair, none of the pairs were successful. There have been a lot of bowlers... Cuffy,Drakes,Collins,Lawson,King and so on.. but none were effective for long run. I guess, Bradshaw is getting many games only now.. he was also sort of inconsistently used before. Edwards is another example.

So consistency in bowler's selection and performance both are missing in Windies team.

A country's problems generally lie in the state and psyche of the domestic setup, the windie's need a complete overhaul of their domestic system

bowling isnt extra ordinary really, bowlers dont have much experience and they defo need a regular spinner and most times their batsmen are real crazy, need some patience
