When will you take batting powerplay?

I'd probably take it during the 40-45 over mark but it depends on the situation as Howsie and MacLovin said.

It definitely depends on the situation. With the automatic early powerplay you'd like to get off to a good start, then take it during the late middle overs (between 30 and 40), because in the last 10 you score quickly anyway, without a powerplay needed to kick you along.

I would do away with powerplays as a tactic for the captains, if they have fielding restrictions call them that and have them at fixed points in the innings. It's just a gimmick, supposedly designed to make the cricket exciting but how often do captains just do their powerplay from the off to get them out the way.
