Aaron Finch's great form is continuing.
How he continues to find a place in the team, let alone captain it, is a mystery. He ought to have some dirt on the selectors to dictate his terms :spy

IIRC he took a team that was in shambles even before the sandpaper saga (and was only since then deprived of it’s two best white ball batters) and rebuilt the side steadily with smart captaincy and led them to series victories in India (which was their first in forever) and a semis spot in the World Cup which was completely above par. Also won a T20WC with his elite tossing skills.

Probably just a bit of gratitude and more than deserved backing from the selectors given how he’s been one of the stalwarts of the side since 2015 and his captaincy skills adding to that. He’s also been in poor ruts before and usually come back strongly just in time but this one seems to be the most extended. Should have ideally been let go sometime ago but this T20WC must be the last, a parting gift on home soil.

I agree with @Bevab - Paine and Finch were the stalwarts alongside Langer who brought back some glory to a badly battered Australian line up. I do not honestly see him continuing beyond the current WT20-if there was a longish enough gap between the two ICC tournaments, CA would have dumped Finch right away.

Meanwhile, NZ looking to close this one out. Just hope their batting doesnt collapse today.

I wouldn't have pegged Australia to do that honestly. Their policy has been to either perform or perish. They usually don't sit on laurels for long. Finch's case seem to been exception.

Ok, is there something wrong with pitch in Cairns? New Zealand playing like the Indian top order here...34/4 in 20overs:wow:

Zampa taking wicket of Kane Williamson is pure luck or great bowling???

Getting out to a full toss like that is embarrassing.

Most definitely a bowling pitch allied with New Zealand’s mental block when they play Australia.

It is shocking how favoured Macewell is in this setup.

He gets three overs towards the end overs when the last partnership is on having bowled zero overs beforehand with Santner who was excellent before that not getting to complete his quota (and don’t tell me this was just because Starc was a lefty because Macewell can barely bowl a proper off-break in the first place). Lo and behold, he gets smashed and Australia suddenly post a score that doesn’t seem as easy to chase anymore.

And now he is promoted ahead of Neesham who has previously shown that he can rebuild an innings in the 2019 WC vs Pakistan having previously batted behind him especially during the slog overs which is supposed to be Bracewell’s strength. If at all you wanted someone to go out there and anchor it should have been Santner.

Shocking favouritism really. Added to that you have the commentator Ian Smith sucking him and his family off too.

Australia batted on the same pitch. Blaming the pitch for negative batting and braindead team selection is absurd.
