Man! That was some serious Annihilation!

Can't stoop lower than this, Windies! All of a sudden, the Test win now seems like a mere fluke/flash in the pan.

It isn’t the biggest surprise though, their white ball teams are in a bit of shambles as proven by their inability to qualify for the world cups. There’s no Pooran, King or Rutherford in these teams too. Could also add Hetmyer and Lewis if you’re feeling generous.

You would have thought they re-grouped after the debacle and put up a team that could compete. Well not to be the case here.

Biggest issue for me was that the entire ODI series felt like an afterthought with both sides fielding a mostly second XI squad. Why was the ODI Super League scrapped? At least that gave bilateral ODI's some kind of tournament structure to exist within, like how the World Test Championship has helped each test victory or defeat feel like a bigger deal. We do still have the ODI team rankings, but they don't get nearly as much attention as the World Cup, and though ODI rankings will determine who directly qualifies for 2027, the 2 test sides that miss out on this still get to play a qualifier where 4 teams out of 10 advance. So whilst the expanded WC is otherwise a good thing, it does also make it less urgent for teams in the drop zone to better their ranking.

The only real positive that came out of the ODI series just played is that Australia's second string bowlers made the most of their opportunity to give the selectors a headache moving forward. Windies bowled out 3 times in a row for an average score of 164.

The ODI league needs to make a comeback. Ideally, apart from the host, the Top4 teams should go through to the World Cup directly. The rest can then fight it out in the Champions Trophy which should give 4 additional spots. In totality consider that we now have 10 teams(assuming that 2 usually host the World cup). The remaining 4 can then be brought via the Qualifiers that the ICC has been hosting. This structure will give a lot of importance to ODI cricket and would ensure that boards sit up and start working finally.
