Meiyappan and Raj Kundra have been named as being under investigation. Srinivasan and Sundar Raman (CEO of IPL) have also been named as being under investigation.

The court refused to name any players, however the names of Owais Shah, Samuel Badree and Stuart Binny have leaked into the media as also being probed.

Remember those named have not been named guilty, just that there was enough evidence to initiate investigations against them. More news may follow today.

Well pretty much. All said and done though, Binny is a bit of a surprise there. I thought he was a good guy especially with his father's legacy and all. A hero in the '83 WC, ending up as the leading wicket taker with 18 wickets. I know he is still under investigation which is not the same as guilty, but still its a bit of a shocker to say the least.

The president of ICC is under allegation of match fixing. How can ICC justify its doing a good job fight against corruption in sports. Its time for ICC's ACSU to take action. wait a minute .. all ICC care about is money ... The president should resign, gets his name cleared first.

In latest big developments, the Mudgal Committee which was set up to investigate the Fixing scandal, has told the Supreme Court that after investigating it has come to the conclusion, Srinivasan ICC President not guilty of any wrong doing regarding either Fixing and Betting. Having said this, the report has said that Srinivasan was aware of wrong doings by others (including a player who is right now being referred to as Individual 3, as Supreme Court has opted not to reveal players' names yet), and still refused to take and steps. So while he was not guilty of any wrong doing, he is most definitely guilty of inaction.

However the news is not so good for other accused. In the report the remaining three officials who were named as being under investigation, namely, CSK co-owner Meiyappan, Rajasthan Royal Co-owner Raj Kundra, and IPL CEO Sundar Raman have been found guilty of betting and of having contacted bookies.

Interestingly its still not clear whether the three accused have been named as being guilty of just betting or also fixing. Betting is legal in many countries, not India. Fixing takes the offense to another level entirely.

Further clarification on this would be required, and also what the report has to say on the players who (apart from the three leaked names) have so far remained unknown.

The matter will be next taken up on Nov 24.

It doesn't really matter if you actually did the fixing or were aware of it and said nothing then you're at the level that Srinivasan is. The fact that the head of the BCCI did nothing about corruption taking place in a competition that the organisation that he led was in charge of while being aware of said acts makes him complicit in match fixing anyway. All thus proves is that the guy shouldn't be chairman of a local cricket club; never mind the bloody ICC!

The Supreme Court today came down hammer and tongs at Srinivasan and his plea to be allowed to contest the BCCI elections. Supreme Court all but dashed any hopes he may have had of an early return and posed plenty of tough questions to Srinivasan. SC went to the extent of noting that Srinivasan was "Killing Cricket", with his conduct.

N. Srinivasan Slammed by Supreme Court, Asks 'How Can BCCI Chief own an IPL Team?' - Cricket News

While more developments are awaited on the next hearing date, here are the key points from today's hearing -

On IPL being a BCCI product:

You can't make a distinction between BCCI and IPL. IPL a is a by-product of BCCI. Some people who are in BCCI now own a team. Now it has become a mutual benefit society.

On Srinivasan wearing two caps:

"Your duty as a president is to keep the show [IPL] running and to keep it clean. What is your duty as a team owner? To win the tournament."

On betting and spot-fixing:

"If you allow these things to happen, then you are killing the game of cricket. Cricket must be played in its true spirit and should remain a gentleman's game. If confidence of the people is shattered, then the game will be over."

On winning the trust of the public:

"Millions of fans are passionate about the game without having any stake in it. It is this public trust that the BCCI needed to pay attention to. Do you want to sit over the liquidation of the game in this country?"

On recognition for Indian cricket, globally:

"Recognition comes when one lakh people turn up at Eden Gardens to watch a match. That recognition is not because of Srinivasan. The benefit of doubt must go to the game rather than the individual."

On BCCI working committee taking action on erring members:

"Should the BCCI use their administrative mechanisms in this matter? Several conflict of interest issues will arise and these questions can't be wished away."

On Srinivasan contesting BCCI elections:

"You are assuming that the (Mudgal Committee) report has cleared you. You can't use BCCI rules to say that you will stand for elections, because the doctrine of public trust will apply.

On how Meiyappan has ruined Srinivasan's reputation:

"The report says you are not involved in betting or fixing or in stalling the investigation. But you have to ask whether despite those findings, you are an owner of a team which is playing, you are related to an individual (Gurunath Meiyappan) who is found in betting. Will that not affect your status as member of the BCCI?"

On individuals challenging the probe report:

"We don't expect people to stand up and confess. There could be corollaries and consequences arising from the inferences contained in the report. That you cannot escape."

On IPL committees and Srinivasan's role:

"You mean to say when a decision is taken in the BCCI, the president is a mute spectator in all this? That he has no say in the matter?"

Reminder that Srinivasan is chairman of the ICC: and apparently wants to be able to run both a team, a national cricket board and the international federation at the same time!!!

lol Tamil Nadu [state]Cricket Association president N. Srinivasan add this too.

I think the way forward for him is clear, if he wants bcci and icc he needs to let go off ipl team completely from his company, otherwise conflict of interest question will always be there, has to be done for the game's sake and to lift the image.

I don't know about the ICC, but as far as the jurisdiction of the Indian Supreme Court extends, it seems that Srinivasan will not be heading so much as a school cricket team, anytime soon.

He's the owner of the Chennai Super Kings (because the franchise is owned by his company, India Cements Ltd); and unless they order him to sell up or remove the franchise from them then he has a direct role in owning and running an IPL team.

I'm going to change the thread title to turn this into a general IPL scandal megathread, since I feel that's more likely to generate discussion than having several scattered around.

Really? Bloody hell, the guy surely can't focus properly on running both State, National and International cricket at the same time? I don't think that there is any other sport that has the head of its international organisation both run a national organisation plus a local organisation within that nation, and also own a team within that countries premier competition at the same time!
