BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

Oop, got faked by a channel switch by Seven. Anyway here's the lineups tonight:

Hurricanes: Matthew Wade, D'Arcy Short, Caleb Jewell, Peter Handscomb, Jordan Cox, Tim David, Tom Lammonby, Nathan Ellis, Joel Paris, Tom Rogers, Sandeep Lamichhane. X-Factors: Wil Parker, Josh Kann

Sixers: Josh Philippe, James Vince, Moises Henriques, Daniel Hughes, Jordan Silk, Dan Christian, Tom Curran, Hayden Kerr, Chris Jordan, Ben Manenti, Steve O'Keefe. X-Factors: Lawrence Neil-Smith, Nick Winter.

The Canes are missing several players, including Meredith and McDemott (injury), Brook and Boland (A-level cricket), and Thompson (COVID close contact). The Sixers have made one change with Ben Manenti in for Sean Abbott.

A quiet first couple of overs. Just one nicely hit boundary by Vince. A bad misfield off the final ball of the second though and it gives up a run.

The first half chance is the first ball of the fourth over. A bit of hesitation in the running, but not only does Philippe get comfortably home, the throw misses.
WICKET! Philippe only lasts two more balls! Ellis with the breakthrough as the ball just bounces a bit and he bottom edges into middle stump. 1/20

WICKET! Of all people, Tim David gets the breakthrough! Vince probably thought the same thing as me in that Tim David bowls right arm rubbish, dances down to go over cover, gets beaten in the air, and is stumped by Wade! 2/22 and the Sixers maybe in a bit of bother?
And a BIG LBW shout! Umpire unmoved, and it was probably going over. Sixers 2/26 and it's all going on!

WICKET! Hughes is gone. Nicks off to Wade. Looking a lot like the Poms here 3/26
WICKET! Silk too! This one was plumb LBW. Tom Rogers the destroyer somehow, and he's fired up about it. 4/26

WICKET! Just as the Sixers were stabilising, Christian runs at Lamichhane and whacks him high. Great catch from Cox and trouble for the Sixers at 5/39.

Finally a boundary is hit, but it doesn't save the Sixers from being at a dismal 5/49 at the halfway point. X-Factor sub likely for them.

Nope, they don't pull the trigger. Although they still have some x-factor at the crease as Henriques smokes Sandeep for four over cover. Then tries to get too cute from the final ball and nearly gloves it down the leg side, it comes off the thigh pad.

Finally the Sixers move! Eleven off Sandeep's final over, including a crunched boundary from each of the batsmen. Moises over cover and Curran through cow corner.

A terrible delivery from Lammonby. A slower short ball that sits up at Henriques' shoulder. He puts is 87m back into one of the races at fine leg.
Wicket? Henriques is slow out of the blocks trying to grab a single and a direct hit occurs from short third. He has made it home though.

5/97 from 15 overs. The Power Surge is called.

WICKET! A great economical start to the Surge from Joel Paris! The ball's hit straight to Handscomb. Curran gone and a productive partnership is broken. 6/101

Henriques just gets away with that! He hits it high into the air, and the man at cover tracks back, but can't get there. Meanwhile, Handscomb's complaining on mic that he's getting moved all around the field by Wade. The fifty that Henriques brings up by executing the cover slap better than the prior ball is probably more of a concern for Wade than Handscomb's stamina. Moises continues rolling along as he sweetly times a drive over mid on and drops it just over the fence.

WICKET! Oh dear. Rogers has a grin of 'I can't believe that' and he's right. He bowls a knee high full toss, Kerr lines it up to repeat Jorge Soler's monster from the World Series this year, and bottom edges into the stumps. 7/123

Cheeky! Jordan goes for a huge swing, misses, and tries to pinch a bye due to Henriques charging. The throw from Wade is woeful. Jordan and Ellis see the funny side.
WICKET! Not a great bye to pinch. Henriques hammers the next ball straight down the throat of Cox at long on. 8/142
WICKET! Jordan tries to come back for a suicidal second from the final ball. Jordan is a long way short from a surprising direct hit from Jordan Cox, but more concerningly, Jordan has a slight limp as he walks off the field. 9/144 represents a great innings from the Hurricanes, but the Sixers will also take it from 5/39.

Early mistake from Wade! He top-edges it but just clears the centre circle and the fielders haring back.

DROPPED! Steve O'Keeffe, golden cap on his head, can't get to a loose slash from Short. Just five from the first two overs.

Concerning news for the Sixers. Jordan did bowl his first over and looked fine, but Dan Hughes has gone off the field and is standing on the sidelines. Would appear to be fitness related possibly. Update: his thumb is being very heavily strapped.

Shocking batting from D'Arcy Short. Just ten from 24 deliveries. He's slowing everything down. 0/22 from six overs.

WICKET! The pressure takes its toll on Matt Wade. Picks out Jordan Silk at deep square leg. Need acceleration at 1/38 from 8.2 overs - maybe they send out someone like Tommy Rogers to pinch hit?
The kids have gotten bored of D'Arcy Short going at a SR of 60. They're building a KFC Buckethead pyramic. Equally impressive as the stack I'd say. Nine needed from the tenth for the Bash Boost point

WICKET! Short's painful stay is at an end. He's cleaned up by Ben Manenti. Maybe this will spark the Cane Train into life? 2/41
Well! Four leg byes, I think! Nope, there was an edge, but they get a boundary to fine leg, and the Bash Boost point could be split here!
And a two into the deep! The Canes hold on to grab the Bash Boost point! 2/50 halfway, but with the slow Short finally gone.

Awful Innings by Short! David or Cox will need to go big from the start! Handscomb to hold the other end!

The Power Surge is called immediately! And Tom Curran bowls one almost to second slip again. It's a scruffy over from Curran, with two wides in his first four balls. The fifth is even worse; it's a shin high full toss that Caleb Jewell plays spectacularly! He plays what is effectively a paddle sweep and it goes 85 metres. Curran puts another towards the slips, and then DROPPED! Daniel Hughes, who already has a sore thumb, juggles a soda before it finally spills out. 14 from the over, a horror for the Sixers - the Cane Train is rolling again.

WICKET! A bit of a rubbish shot, as Jewell tries to ramp Jordan, and picks out Manenti at short third. 3/70.

The pile of buckets has collapsed. Sad.
Incredible fielding from Silk! He stops a surefire six from going out. Handscomb still gets two.
WICKET! Great catch from O'Keeffe! He gets a return ball from Lammonby and takes it well low and to his right. 4/73
DROPPED! Sok can't take a pair of them! This time it's a massive high ball from David. Probably light affected, but still a miss.

WICKET! David goes inside out over cover and gets a boundary, but then tried to replicate it and couldn't clear Christian at cover. Issues for the Canes at 5/78.

A bit of stabilisation from Handscomb and Cox but now a few boundaries. 5/93 from 15.2

The ball after I post that goes for six! Handscomb swings cleanly through the line, plonks it over Vince at deep backward square, and an entire run per over melts off the equation. And six more from the final ball! A lot less convincing, but 20 from the over, and the game tightens further!

Also, team news from Perth:
Scorchers XI: 1 Colin Munro, 2 Cameron Bancroft (wk), 3 Kurtis Patterson, 4 Laurie Evans, 5 Ashton Turner (capt), 6 Aaron Hardie, 7 Ashton Agar, 8 Andrew Tye, 9 Matthew Kelly, 10 Jason Behrendorff, 11 Peter Hatzoglou.

Heat XI: 1 Chris Lynn, 2 Max Bryant, 3 Ben Duckett, 4 Sam Heazlett, 5 Jimmy Peirson (capt/wk), 6 Tom Cooper, 7 James Bazley, 8 Xavier Bartlett, 9 Cameron Gannon, 10 Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 11 Liam Guthrie.

Back to Launceston where 29 runs are needed from the last 3 overs. The 3 overs before now went for 37. It's possible, particularily with the good running Handscomb and Cox are providing...
WICKET! The ball after that, Curran goes straight through Cox with a slow ball! 6/118, a lot of this is on Peter Handscomb now.

Quiet end to the over. 23 needed from 12 balls.

Great bowling from Jordan! Single, single, dot to start his final over. 21 needed from 9.
Dot! Handscomb tries a ramp! And it fails. Two from the first four balls.
Just three from the final over. 20 to win from the final over. 0/3 at the Scorchers game.

One from the first ball! He can't get back. 19 needed from five.
WICKET! Ellis hits it straight up. The only glimmer of hope is that they did cross, 7/126
Dot! 19 needed from 3. Three sixes needed to go to the Super Over. Can they do it?
Nope. It's a four. Well hit but unless there's a five wide or no ball, that's game.
WICKET! And that's it. Handscomb had to go hard, but he picks out Jordan Silk rather than anyone in the crowd. 8/130, can we switch to the Heat game before we miss anything?

And that's how we finish it! And there's been a wicket, of Munro, while I was away! Before we switch and I say any more, though, the stars of the game:
:goldo: Moises Henriques (73 (48))
:slvo: Tom Curran (3/27)
:bro: Tom Rogers (3/28)

Well, Andrew Gaze is now in commentary, and the ball is apparently swinging all over the place! Guthrie cleans up Munro while Handscomb was being dismissed, so it's 1/7. Slips are in

A life for Bancroft! He hits it very high into the air, but it gets lost in the sun for Bazley and he doesn't even move. A big life.

Big six for Patterson! He gets some revenge on Guthrie for the wicket by tapping him over Heazlett in the deep. Then stands and delivers straight past him for a four. And picks another off the hip for six, followed by a orthodox cover drive to the fence! 22 from the over, Guthrie's been demolished, although the wicket of Munro will give him some positive credit, and Patterson is on a roll!

A shout from Mujeeb! Probably going over the top though. 1/44 from the first 5 overs

Everything goes Kurtis Patterson's way. A bottom edged four goes through Jimmy Peirson. Then another educated edge grabs Cam Bancroft four. Another shout from the next ball, likely sliding down leg.

WICKET! Bazley was very bad in his first over, giving up 11,, in addition to the missed catch. But he bowls a straight full one and Bancroft misses it. The bails light up 2/75

An entire section of the crowd is wearing hi-vis jackets. Laurie Evans' bat may be the thing requiring protective equipment as it snaps in half when he tries to send Guthrie back to Brisbane. At the other end, Patterson hits his fifth boundary from Guthrie to bring up his maiden half-century. 2/89 from the ten overs.
