Just wondering who you guys think is the best up-coming Test batsman.
There's been a few rookies make their presence known lately,
so there would be many to consider...

Imo, Michael Hussey is the #1 Rookie at present,
but there are a few other good players around I know little about.
So who do you reckon is the best rookie..?

Andrew...

I too feel Mike Hussey is the best upcoming batsman at the moment!

Cant wait to see him face the Asian giants (esp. India)! He has proved himself against West Indies and South Africa! Now we have to see how he fares against the other teams!

Meanwhile, how good a player is he of spin bowling? Any ideas?

I think Fulton seems good. He has played with lot of determination.

He's pretty good against spin, although he didn't face much of it against
the West Indies in the Test matches here in Oz and he's only faced a little
spin from the South Africans, we'll get a more true indication of his abilities
against spin from the Indians soon enough though, can't wait...

Well you really can't go passed Hussey. And I agree with rahulk, Peter Fulton is looking to be a very promising batsman.

But Husseys not a true rookie is he? 28?

A rookie is someone like Fulton new to professional cricket.

Fulton I am sure will get into the test team against the West Indies. His domestic 4 day record is fantastic so hes probably better at the longe rform. hes scored domestic 200 and 300 so he can bat a long time and as you have seen in the ODI's, he can bat at a good strike rate and hit the big shots if needed.

I wouldn't classify a 30 year old as a up and coming player. My vote would go to A.B. De villiers atleast in test cricket.

I don't think age really has anything to do with a new Test player being
regarded as a rookie or not, International Test cricket is much harder than anything else,
age and past experience in other forms of cricket are no guarantee that
a player will do well in test cricket.

It's probably harder for an aged cricketer because he'd be more set in his ways
and be much more used to lesser strengthed opponents. Where as a younger
guy isn't so set in his ways and should be able to adapt quicker, but probably
not as with much consistency as the older rookie at first.
That's just my opinion anyway...

Can Smith and Yuvraj be classified as up and coming players?? They have been around the international scene for a while now.

Agreed. Smith has been around ages and if anything is on the way down.
