EPL Cancelled! New T20 tornament called P20.

THE ECB have scrapped the proposed English Premier League.

Original plans were for a 20-team tournament, including the 18 counties, an Indian side and an Sir Allen Stanford team, to start next year as well as a revamped Twenty20 Cup.

Counties have been in the dark over how the competition would be run, but it has emerged the idea now was ?discarded some time ago? and is likely to be replaced by a new tournament called the P20 which will be run in June and involve just the counties who will be able to field up to four overseas players.

A Twenty20 League will also be held, most often on Friday nights in July and August, and act as the qualifying tournament for the IPL?s Champions League.

?When the EPL was being formulated there were a number of models which were being considered, one of which included overseas teams," said an ECB spokesman. ?That model was discarded some time ago.?

Agree with WC but I must say a full strength Victorian team would probably beat a large majority of English County teams. Well, they would give them a run for their money that's for sure.

He may be biased but yeah we would. Maybe with the 4 overseas players you'd have the edge but if we're talking both teams at full strength, Victoria would win, we have some of the best Twenty20 players in Australia.

I guess we'll find out for sure if and when the Champions League ever gets off the ground. Provided the best teams are actually allowed to compete in it of course.

One thing about T20 is that it is so unpredictable, any side can beat any other on their given day. Don't judge English teams based on England's T20 performances. That squad is a bunch of over paid under performing pre-madonnas who have played very little T20 cricket, most of whom wouldn't make the squad if I were picking a County XI for T20.

That's crap. I was hoping they'd ditch the whole 2nd Twenty20 tournament all together. Just seems a waste of time to have 2 T20 tournaments in 1 year, just ditch the P20 all together and stick with the Twenty20 Cup, which is still the best T20 competition in the world in my eyes.

BTW, Rajasthan Royals would burn any T20 team, Bushrangers or Kent or Middlesex.

I think Dan's point was more about the fact that there will still be 2 English domestic T20 tournaments which will include the same teams (ok 4 overseas allowed for 1 tournament so not exactly the same). I agree that this is a bit silly. Why not just have 1 bigger tournament if that much T20 is required?

Totally agree with you Dan. Better than some silly Champions League, Premier League blah blah blah tournament. The IPL will never get the "fun factor" that is present in the Twenty20 Cup. The IPL is just too comercialised and has too much at stake.

What's that smell?? Wouldn't be greed would it? Two Twenty/20 competitions is a bad idea. Just have one - the one they currently have.

People have gone OTT for Twenty/20.....
