Our good friend at MindStorm Studios, Babar Ahmed (CEO of MS) has given Planet Cricket.net an exclusive interview about Cricket Revolution based on the questions from PC members, whom we thank for their contributions.

Q: Will there be a single player mode?

Babar Ahmed: Yes. There will be two single player experiences in the form of exhibition matches vs AI teams and then net practice. However, our core focus is on providing a competitive online play experience, where tournaments, progression and leaderboards are all based on player vs player matches.

Q: What kind of licenses and game modes will be available in the game?

BA: We are not simulating official tournaments or representing official players. The game is based on complete player customization where teams and players can be easily tailored to represent your virtual national heroes and fantasy teams by changing many aspects of the teams and players including, face, body type, and style of play.

Q: Why should I buy the game? What makes it different to all the other poor attempts at a cricket game on the market?

BA: Cricket Revolution is very different from what has been on the market so far. Entirely original game play mechanics, combined with a complete online experience results in a genre of its own so to speak. Additionally, a lot of features and tweaks in the game so far have been shaped based on researching gamer feedback on the games of the past.

Q: Were the graphics built from ground up?

BA: Yes. The core of the game is supported by a heavily customized version of a commercial 3D engine. And this is not a competitor's game engine as some of the comments we read speculated.

Q: Will it be a fun, and realistic game that we can play?

BA: Game play is number one on our list of deliverables. Cricket is no fun if a fast bowler can't generate a snick into the keeper's gloves with a new ball. It is no fun if a bowler can bowl ten overs straight without a huff or puff. It is especially no fun when batting teams run totals of over 400 effortlessly. We are making sure all of that is solidly in place.

Q: Will the game feature any famous commentators?

BA: Famous faces and voices largely depend upon our yet unsigned publisher - its a publishing thing. These questions will be answered in time.

Q: Will it feature stadium builders?

BA: The initial release of CR will not have a stadium builder.

Q: Are the magic (special) deliveries implemented?

BA: Yes.

Q: Do you intend to release a demo, and frequent updates for the game?

BA: There will be a demo and CR's auto game patching system will be dropping in goodies and surprises to constantly improve your game play experience.

Q: Will there be more or less animations than EA Cricket or Brian Lara Cricket?

BA: Cricket Revolution allows gamers to choose between multiple body types, with each body type having its own complete set of animations. Given that EA and Brian Lara have only a single body type, you can do the math.

Q: Will the game be compatible on lower end graphics cards?

BA: The game has been performing really well on low end graphic cards so far - we are actually quite excited about that part.

Q: Will players have individuality about them (e.g. Ganguly struggling against the bouncer or Chanderpaul's stance) or will licenses prevent any sort of likeness?

BA: Again, our customization system will yield plenty of individuality, including style of play and body types. Cricket Revolution will be the first cricket game to offer multiple body types (ranging from tall heavy to short thin) that look different on the field and that have unique game play based on their physique (for example slow running or hard hitting).

Q: Will you be making patches for this game after the release?

BA: Yes, the auto patch system will regularly update your game with the latest content, balances, and fixes each time you go online.

Q: How much will the game cost? Will it be available for download or will a copy of the game on a DVD be delivered to us?

BA: This is again a publishing thing. We would like it to be available both for download and on boxed DVD's. This will be confirmed in time.

Q: This looks like a promising game from what I have seen of it on the site, I just hope you will be putting gameplay above graphics, creating a realistic game of cricket, is this the case?

BA: Game play is given priority over simulation in all aspects of the game. On a side note, you can also rest assured that you will be spared from a lot of repetitive zombie like cut scenes!

Q: I am sure online multiplayer will be a good feature, but will there also be single player and same-computer multiplayer play available? If so, will we be able to create our own tournaments and series'?

BA: Cricket Revolution can be played both online and offline, in single and multiplayer modes. Custom tournaments are not targeted as part of the original release, but stay tuned for updates.

Q: Will the game be easily editable?

BA: Yes. Teams and players will be completely customizable.

Q: How long has the game been in production? Seeing we haven't seen much marketing from the games producers.

BA: The game has been in production for almost two years. Note that Mindstorm Studios is an independent development studio and marketing is something publishers typically do. We can all expect a lot more of that once we sign up with a publisher.

Q: How Enthusiastic/knowledgeable are the staff on cricket working on this project?

BA: Great question. All members of the development team have been playing cricket and following international cricket practically since childhood! Just one of the perks that comes with developing out of a cricket crazy nation.

Q: What platforms will this game be released on?

BA: The first release will be for the PC.

Q: How many teams are in the game and is it fully licenced?

BA: The game features the top twelve cricketing countries and two custom teams.

Cheers and thanks for the great questions, hope we answered them!

Regards,

Babar.

Cricket Revolution will be the first cricket game to offer multiple body types (ranging from tall heavy to short thin)

Anyone else sensing that there will only be two others (tall thin and short heavy)?:D

sounds good so far and the one good point is that it is being made in a country which knows its cricket.

This game actually makes me want to buy it. Every other game is just the same old thing with a few differences. This seems very unique and well thought through. Looking forward to seeing more from these guys, and hopefully this game will revolutionise cricket games.

They sound like they're putting plenty of effort into it, which is what Brian Lara Cricket and Cricket 07 have lacked.
Sounds good so far but we'll have to wait until the demo releases and we'll see whether they live up to the hype.

From what I understand, since they don't have any licenses from ICC there won't be any real cricketers in there, which is to say that you could make your own Ganguly, Chanderpaul, etc, and modify the player however you wish.

Since it is mainly bounded by Online Mode, I'm interested to know how the creating/modifying of characters works and where there will be limits. Eg. You can't just have 7 class batsman, 1 perfect all-rounder and 4 spot-on bowlers.

How does the balance work out or is there some other kind of system?

Will be a while before we see this game though.

I'd assume every player will be made, but they have fake names.

The game is being made in Pakistan, so I can see some legal issues being bypassed, which may be a good thing!
