India to host world cup final

I agree. The Eden Gardens will probably get a super eight game and a group game or two. It'll be interesting to see how the tournament will be organized. Will they play it like the Windies, where each group gets one venue?

I think so with the sub-continent teams being group leaders.
I think that the hosts will play their matches in their own country.
Eden Gardens would definately get the Super Eight Games-atleast two.
Also, till the time the world cup is there, there might as well be a change in the BCCI leadership-i'm counting too much here though.

I'm sure the BCCI leadership will have changed by then. However, politics-wise it may still be the same (as in the same 'party' in power). I hope this doesn't affect the preparation, though.

Can anyone get right answer for that where that match will be played :cheers

Mumbai-where not yet decided.
Either Braborune or Wankhede or the new one at Neral.

Oh rats, is the 2011 WC in India? I want one in Australia. :(
I hope they atleast get some big grounds over there first. Watching ODI cricket on smallish grounds is to Twenty20 pron.

The new ground is the D.Y.Patil Sports Academy ground at Nerul..
Iam doing my engineering from D.Y.Patil and I`ve been to that ground quite often.
I must tell you that it is a superb ground, much better than the Wankhede .
Has a capacity of 66,000, and has underground drainage facilities as well.
The soil and grass has been imported from SA and they promise it`ll be a reasonably bouncy track.
I met the curator who is in-charge of this ground (is also the chief curator of Kingsmead,Durban) as well and he promised that the track will be the quickest in India.

I've been to Mohali. I've seen the players' change room, the pitch, the pool near the change rooms. Mohali is a very very good ground. But, it will not host the WC Final.

It'll be held in Mumbai, the cricket capital of India.

Wankheded will be out of contention once this one comes through.
However, its too far from the city's international airport.
So either the teams can rest at Pune or Amby Valley Lonavla. This is till the new proposed airport comes up in New Mumbai !

Lets go Chennai for final host!
My hometown! Friendliest people you'll ever meet, the stadium in the shadows of the longest beach in the world (Marina beach-beautiful!) Really awesome city.
Would love if it was hosted there, but i highly doubt it.
Kolkata would have had a chance prior to the whole Ganguly-Chappell issue. I think its a real toss up between Mumbai-Delhi.

Aww, Delhi got it. Rats.

I hope Eden Gardens doesn't get it. It'll be difficult to see 90,000 foreign spectators fill up the stadium if India doesn't make it. And if India makes it to the final and there's no Ganguly, it'll be heartbreaking for the rest of the country.
Excuse my ignorance, but why would it be heartbreaking if there was no Ganguly? Didn't he pay to get into the Indian side in the first place because he's from a wealthy family?

Actually, he was dumped from the side in 1992 for his behavior. Money does play its part in local cricket, but at the national level, it is only about talent and more importantly, performance.

A lot of people say Ganguly's brother was a better batsman than Sourav, but he never got the chance to play.

Infact thats what ppl in Kolkata say.
It seems that Snehashish Ganguly had an accident or something due to which he could not continue playing.
Therof,he started teaching his younger brother Sourav.

So it'll be a poorly organised, poorly run, controversial shambles of an event compounded by politicians and board members trying to get their ugly mugs on TV, which will know doubt be the subject of a bidding war which will leave large portions of the country unable to watch while someone in America can watch live.

Perfect.
