Virender Sehwag is to return home from the World Twenty20 with a shoulder injury, a development that is likely to affect India's chances of retaining the trophy. Sehwag had missed both of India's warm-up games and the win against Bangladesh on Saturday due to the injury, which he picked up during the IPL.

In Sehwag's absence, India have used Rohit Sharma as a makeshift opener to good effect in all three matches.

Rohit Sharma has been doing a great job. He has the potential and the form to fill in for Sehwag for the time being.

Dinesh Karthik comes in as the replacement, according to Cricinfo. A blow to India, but it may be a blessing in disguise as they get to keep Rohit Sharma up top.

Rohit sharma has great potential people where thinking he cant open but he did and enjoying it yaa its bad news sehwag not there karthick will come i think and it will be good for india as there will be one more keeper

So will DDK play now, or will India stick with Yusuf + Irfan + 4 bowlers?

Its pretty sad tbh.Sehwag is far more destructive than Rohit and we could have had Rohit down the order, where he could play some match winning knocks when needed.
Karthik has now very much grown as a player than when he played last time for India. He must play imo.
But its a big blow for our title chances losing Sehwag.

A big blow for India, no doubt. But we'll have to move on. Nothing much can be done about this. And Dinesh Kartik as Sehwag's replacement!!! No way! Sharma is doing a fine job as an opener. Though I'm not the greatest fan of Sharma, I'll take him over that crap KKD anyday. And there's no place for him in our middle/lower order.

He must not. There is no need to change a set team. Why should we unnecessarily change a winning combination? KKD is not the best T-20 player of all-time, yes, he knows how to whack, but why should we unnecessarily play two keepers?

KKD > Rohit Sharma. He just needs to have a good temperament to make it big in international level.

Kartik will be quite useful at no.6(where Rohit usually plays) and he is damn consistent. He might be that finisher we are craving for.

Here is my question. Why should we change a SET team unnecessarily? Yes, he can whack a few towards the end, but, we just don't need him. Why should we play an extra keeper and not go with some allrounder like Jadeja? (One match proves nothing) We already have LOADS of hitters in the team. Yuvraj, MSD, GG, Yusuf, and all....

Dhoni is really patchy these days.Yusuf! well, even he doesnt know when he'll play a cameo ( which is expected from him ).Yuvraj and Raina are the only consolation, but if one of them fail, its trouble for us.We just saw how our lower order was struggling after Raina and Rohit got out against New Zealand.Im not finding problems to fit Kartik in the team, but still.Im just feeling he might be quite useful.

Its not the ig blow that would have been if rohit was not in such a good form for opening
If you want to preserve rohit to finish
Then yusuf to open(he did open in the wt20 final last year)
So
TheTeam will be like This
gauti
Yusuf/rohit
raina
yuvi
mahi
yusuf/rohit
irfan
bhajji
ojha
zak
ishant

They should have named Wriddhiman Saha as a replacement.

Rohit < KKD?? NO WAY! Rohit Sharma in his current form is the best T20 batsmen for India at the moment. KKD is nowhere close. Even in terms of class, Rohit is far higher.

I just posted in the other thread asking for Manish Pandey, but it seems they have called up KKD. Not bad since it could reduce the load of Dhoni if the need arises (they should have done this when picking the team for this tournament).
