Ponting will break Tendulkar's record: Hayden
Kochi: Australian opener Matthew Hayden, who had famously hailed Sachin Tendulkar as God five years ago, has said the Indian's record of scoring highest number of Test centuries would soon be overtaken by his skipper Ricky Ponting.

go ponting go and break all of endulkar records ;)

It isn't a difficult guess for anyone, who has seen in which rate Ponting has been scoring centuries lately, that he will overtake that record very soon.

It all depends on his form during the next few years. If he starts going into a form slump it could take a while for him to hit back to top gear, a bit like what Hayden went thorugh.

endulkar? who is that 'new' player? has he ever played for any international country? i would love to see his stats (if available).

hmm.. ask punter to come to india and face harbhajan singh.... lets see what he breaks that record.

anyways, no denying that ponting is a great batsman. records are meant to be broken, and if he is destined to break it, good for him and australian cricket. he has been a very good batsman in intl. cricket.

the champion will be back and will put his critics to rest with some superlative performances. he has been the best batsman india have ever seen, and will be one of the legends in the history of cricket!

I think he plays for the same team as Brain Lara and Ricky Pointing.

I think the punter will definately break batting records of tendulkar.

Well, tendulkar might be comfortable playing spin, but there are other areas where ponting has out-scored him, especially during pressure situations(last 2 years).

Let Tendulkar make the records first then u can say that Ponting will break his record.Don't forget Tendulkar is still playing and soon he will be in the team and who knows Ponting also goes through a bad patch in his career and things will look on the opposite side then.

if tendulkar comes back after his shoulder injury and makes more than 5 centuries between then and the end of the year, he will be fine. otherwise ponting will break his record. and what gaurav_indian said is very important, even if ponting does, there will be two current players with still 3 or 4 years left in their carrer and they will challenge each other similar to warne and murali in the wickets. but an injury or a bad patch for one of them could make them lose ground over the other..

Pontings going to have the most centuries, most runs in a year (possibly) and 10,000+ runs.

Tendulkar on Ponting,

Tendulkar was also asked of Ricky Ponting's fantastic run recently, fast catching up on his record 35 Test hundreds. "I played against Ponting in a few exhibition games in 1991-92 and knew he will be the guy to watch out for. Sunil Gavaskar's record of 34 Test hundreds stood for 22 years and such benchmarks help the next generation - whether it is Ponting, Lara or myself. That is the best thing about records."

Ponting's got momentum at the moment, just as Tendulkar had from 1991-1999 and off and on since. Let's see for how long this dream run lasts. Tendulkar is great because he has equally superlative performances in both tests and ODIs. Ponting's still got a long way to cover before being anywhere near Tendulkar's odi record, most runs in odis in an year (1854 in 1998) or most international centuries at 74.
