Nice win for the Scots again, plus nice pres

Hopefully we can beat NZ or Italy and qualify

Yep - nice pres and a great win for Scotland! :) Lets hope you can beat Italy or NZ!

Thanks for the praise. Unfortunately, you are both going to be disappointed with the latest result.:(

IRB RUGBY WORLD CUP 2007

SCOTLAND 5-14 NEW ZEALAND

SCOTLAND REACH THE QUARTER FINALS OF THE RUGBY WORLD CUP 2007 DESPITE DEFEAT TO THE ALL BLACKS

Scotland lost their 100% record at the Rugby World Cup 2007 in a gripping 5-14 defeat to the mighty New Zealand All Blacks at Murrayfield.

Deadlock in the first half saw a rare 0-0 scoreline at the break, but two converted tries in the second half caused by Scottish mistakes saw the All Blacks to the top of the pool.

Scotland scored a try in extra time but it was not enough to nullify the deficit.

Despite the defeat, Scotland have qualified for the quarter finals of the tournament because third placed Romania have finished all of their games and have 8 points, 2 points inferior to the Scots' 10.

Italy would have to break all records against Scotland in the last match of the pool to go through.

It does however mean that Scotland have the less favourable second place, meaning that they will have to play a team that finished in first place in their group in the quarter finals.

These were the line ups for the two teams:

New Zealand

1. T. WOODCOCK
2. K. MEALAMU
3. C. HAYMAN
4. J. RYAN
5. A. WILLIAMS
6. J. COLLINS
7. R. MCCAW
8. R. SO'OIALO
----------------
9. B. KELLEHER
10. D. CARTER
11. S. SIVIVATU
12. A. MAUGER
13. M. MULIAINA
14. J. ROKOCOKO
15. L. MACDONALD

Scotland

1. G. KERR
2. D. HALL
3. E. MURRAY
4. N. HINES
5. S. MURRAY
6. J. WHITE
7. K. BROWN
8. S. TAYLOR
-------------
9. M. BLAIR
10. D. PARKS
11. S. LAMONT
12. A. HENDERSON
13. R. DEWEY
14. C. PATERSON
15. H. SOUTHWELL

Before the game began, the All Blacks performed the traditional tribal dance the Haka:

Meh, losing to the All Blacks is no biggie. Scotland should aim for the semis, that would be a good achievement.

:clap:clapGreat win for Scotland.:clap:clap Though I would have Hogg starting at flanker and Kelly Brown as a sub. Then again I'm biased cos Hogg went to the same school as me, and Kelly Brown's eyebrows freak me out. :p

It would be slightly unfair to drop a player because their eyebrows freak some people out, don't you think?:p

In real life, Scotland would expect to lose to New Zealand so in that aspect it's quite realistic.

W3lshrugby - Romania did beat Italy, but it was a very tight match.

Scotland turned around a score of 0-10 down at half time to beat Italy 28-10 in their last pool match of the Rugby World Cup 2007.

I was worried I was going to lose to Italy when they were 10-0 up. I couldn't let that happen of course!;)

More in the story tomorrow.

IRB RUGBY WORLD CUP 2007

POOL STAGES COMPLETED

THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN AT RUGBY WORLD CUP 2007

Scotland will play Ireland in the quarter finals of the Rugby World Cup 2007 after a dramatic conclusion to the pool stages.

The Scots will play the Irish in a titanic battle of Britain - and if they win, could face bigger rivals England.

This is how the teams for the quarter finals are decided:

1st Group A vs 2nd Group B
2nd Group A vs 1st Group B
1st Group C vs 2nd Group D
2nd Group C vs 1st Group D

This means that the quarter finals are as follows:

ENGLAND vs FIJI
SOUTH AFRICA vs AUSTRALIA
NEW ZEALAND vs FRANCE
SCOTLAND vs IRELAND

England produced a surprise by beating South Africa in Pool A, and Fiji sent Wales crashing out of the tournament in Pool B. There were few shocks in Pool C, but Ireland beat France in Pool D and fancied Argentina were dumped out at the first hurdle.

"Second place usually means the tougher quarter final, but I think Ireland have done us a favour by beating France and finishing top." said coach Frank Hadden.

Nice to see england playing Fiji they should get through

Scotland v Ireland. A pretty good match up although seeing Ireland beat France and won all their games you would think they were favourites. However I would prefer Ireland over France anyday.

Really good work still mate and don't go out in Glasgow after dark ;) (Don't worry it is just a biast East v west view, that Glasgow is a dump. Which it is ;))

I'll bear it in mind. I don't go out in Norwich at night for the same reason.
