The Ashes 2021/22

You just couldn’t help yourself with your reverse jinxing :mad
It never worked in any of my previous instances, so imagine my surprise when it actually did

Joe Root now has lost 8 times in Australia as captain, joint-most defeats for a visiting captain in one country.
But the overall record for a touring England side is extremely poor anyway, one win in the last twenty years?

Atrocious. I've seen more runs scored in a schoolboy match than England scored in this match.
I run a school cricket team so you have a fair point.

Is there an England A team?
What would be the difference between that and the B team?

I've rewatched the batting collapse again, and honestly it's just sad. But for fun, let's go through the side one last time:
  1. Rory Burns - To think that even after all of this, he's the best option to be England captain.
  2. Dawid Malan - Yeah he's done. Averages 27 from 22 Tests. Popesque.
  3. Zak Crawley - fearsome tweak it give him 100 Tests.
  4. Ben Stokes - 23 with the bat, 71 with the ball.
  5. Joe Root - It's somehow poetic that Root was undone by something completely outside his control.
  6. Sam Billings - The shot of a one-test-wonder. Tamely chipping to mid-on for one during a vital partnership for his team.
  7. Ollie Pope - Technically flawed from a player who, 23 Tests into his career, feels nothing but exposed.
  8. Chris Woakes - An utterly horrible, pointless slog from someone who I firmly believe to be better than that.
  9. Mark Wood - Tail-end slogging in the most traditional sense; neither
  10. Ollie Robinson - Surely you at least make an effort to keep out your first ball? Surely?
Such a scrambled, broken team.

Why were England batting like that? Its almost like they thought "ffs the openers gave us a half decent start let's cock it up and pack it in quick, want extra 2 days off"

dog shit

New game, let's select a squad to go to the West Indies and get rolled!

:eng: :bat: Zak Crawley
:eng: :bat: Jake Libby
:eng: :bat: Dan Lawrence
:eng: :bat: Joe Root
:eng: :ar: Ben Stokes
:eng: :wkb: Jonny Bairstow
:eng: :wk: Ben Foakes
:eng: :bwl: Mark Wood
:eng: :bwl: Ollie Robinson
:eng: :bwl: Stuart Broad
:eng: :bwl: Jimmy Anderson

:eng: :bat: Josh Bohannon
:eng: :bat: Kiran Carlson
:eng: :bwl: Saqib Mahmood
:eng: :bwl: Craig Overton
:eng: :bwl: Dom Bess
:eng: :bwl: Jack Leach

England to go into the first Test without a spinner, then the WIndies take 15 wickets with Rahkeem, Warrican and Chase

I don't think that Libby, Bohannon or Carlson are perfect picks, but I also suspect there'll be a very real appetite to look like they're at least trying to pick some new faces in the side.

Zak Crawley - fearsome tweak it give him 100 Tests.
Not that I've seen a lot of him - more like three tests - but I'm very impressed by his attitude and strokemaking. Defense needs work but has more potential than Burns and Hameed, possibly combined

He'd certainly look like a world-beater against a bowling machine at private school

You think so? :lol

Even Sibley > Crawley
He simply has shown that he has all the shots. Sibley's defense is better than Crawley's but, even casting the pool deeper than the four in the Ashes squad, what I see is a lot of overly defensively players who would appear to be Rory Burns minus the funky technique. (Also Hameed, but he's plain worse)

Well England atleast have the IPL to blame for their loss it seems! All root problem English test team has is definitely because of the cold blooded IPL. How dare RCB play with Burns, Sibley, how dare KKR have Root, Broad, Anderson, how dare MI have Crawley, Leach, etc. Damn you IPL.

Not too sure what this is about.... Could you be a bit more precise?

I love that Aggers is at least trying to think outside the box, but also don't think this is the answer at all.

I think I've raised the issue before, but I would be looking to change structures from the top down. I'd have a Director of Cricket, who would oversee the positions of Test Coach, Limited Overs Coach, Chief Selector and Head Scout for the men's national team. They would also oversee the Lions and the age-group England teams to ensure that the juniors were coming through versed in the same sorts of fundamentals as they will need in the national team. This is something that can be learnt directly from the English football team, and indeed they might be well-served by bringing in someone like Aidy Boothroyd in a consultancy role on how to set up such structures.

As far as the county game goes, there's a huge amount to unpack. I've gone through a lot of my ideas here in the past (including the most fanciful one of binning off the Hundred) so I'll leave that be for now, but if anyone wants me to write it all down in one place then just drop me a ping.

You can't blame English players for playing in the IPL, where they earn good money.

The problem is with English cricket. Here's what Aggers has to say:

https://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/60016410
The problem is not blaming, the problem is irrational stupidty. None of the test players except Stokes, Buttler and Bairstow played for IPL. Out of all those 3 players Stokes did not even participate in this years IPL. So while your house is burning, do not blame the guy smoking cigarette in different town for that!
