The ECB Splits and UKBoC is Born
Giles Clarke has today upset many senior ECB Directors, who have formed a breakaway board, the United Kingdom Board of Cricket. They have their sites set on a new and exciting Twenty20 program featuring franchises from four of the biggest cities in the UK.

Further details leaked through an anonymous UKBoC source say that the split has been in the works for a long time, and the UKBoC were recruiting players from all over the country.

"It's like World Series," says CEO Martin Sixer, "The players have already been told that they will be unavailable for their national teams if they join the league, but they just don't agree with some of what the ECB has been doing recently.

The Teams
Teams in the UKBoC Series are allowed a maximum of three overseas players in their squads of 13. While some County Cricketers were selected, many sides had to fill the ranks with little known club cricketers.

However, lack of funding has resulted in only having enough funds for two overseas players, most of which was spent on Andrew Symonds.

County Boards Strike out at the UKBoC

County Boards Strike out at the UKBoC
The Northamptonshire and Lancashire cricket boards have today struck out at UKBoC, saying that their league was poaching a selection of their best players.

"It would be fine if the ECB would legitimise the UKBoC concept of a franchise competition," says David Capel, "but unfortunately they haven't, and that puts the counties nearest the city franchises in a very difficult position. They signed up for the league under the impression that they would miss out on County Cricket for around two weeks, but after the ECB ruling today, they have all been handed one year bans. I just hope that the UKBoC release the players to play for their counties."

The UKBoC intends to continue with the competition over the course of the next two weeks as scheduled, but also intend to work on persuding the ECB to renounce its bans on UKBoC contracted players. More will be released as the tournament progresses.

The London Lightning got off to a flying start in the series, the London Lightning bowling lineup was handled expertly by Murray Smith. Darren Bravo then steered the runchase home with a matchwinning 78*. In an interview with David Gower he said, "It was a great feeling, but it could easily have been Andy's [Symonds] big day. Charl [Willoughby] nearly won the game for them too. He nearly got me second ball. I just had to swing and hope against him.
