Ponting is absolute rubbish. Leads from the front, yes, but isn't creative or innovative and looks lost when his team is losing.
Jayawaradene easily. Tactically good, calm under pressure, leads with the bat.
Smith is awesome too, has a sort of over-my-dead body attitude. If his team needs a heroic performance, he'll go and get it.
Vettori wasn't bad at all either, very quick in changing his fields and such. It helps he is well respected by the other Kiwis, and so they jump when he says jump. He has complete control over the team and the bowlers and uses that well.
I'd mention Kumble too, same attitude as Smith, albeit his skills are waning a little. But he's aggressive, commands respect, decent tactically and knows how to work his bowlers. We suck when batting though, he really should be able to inspire the batsmen.
Gayle worked best for the Windies as he just stood back, and let the players express themselves. I mean, imagine being a fast bowler who has been hit for a few boundaries. Most captains would got an have a word with them, and I know that can be very irritating to some bowlers. Gayle knows that, and so he just sits back, doesn't change the field, and lets them channel their anger into their bowling instead of being in their ear. That was good. He also let the batsmen bat as they wish, and let them feel bad and feel the need to perform after a few failures.
I haven't seen a lot of KP's captaincy this match, sadly. But sending Harmy in at 9 worked pretty well!
Younis Khan would have been a fine skipper for Pakistan, chirpy, active, constantly changing the fields and talking with the bowlers, very encouraging. But he turned down captaincy. Malik has the same problems as Ponting, looks lost under pressure. Although I think he could do a lot better, he seems very smart and confident and knowladgeable about the game normally. Must be low on confidence.
Ashraful is good too. Respected, chirpy, energetic. I don't know if I can call him creative, haven't seen him at test level. He works well though with the ODI bowlers, always keeping energy high. He leads from the front in the field, but needs to score more runs.
