The Chinese cricket team is the team that represents the country of the People's Republic of China in international cricket. The Chinese Cricket Association became an International Cricket Council affiliate member in 2004. [1] It should be noted that the Special administrative region of Hong Kong is a member of the ICC in their own right, becoming an ICC associate member in 1969. Hence, players from Hong Kong are not eligible to represent China in international competition.
Prior to the establishment of a recognised national side, the Shanghai Cricket Club, the largest club in the country, played games against many touring sides but they do not receive official recognition from the Chinese Cricket Association.
Since September 2005, the Chinese Cricket Association has conducted 8 coaching/ umpiring training course under the assistance from the Asian Cricket Council ("ACC"). The sports was now promoted in 9 cities in China namely Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Dalian, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Tianjin and Jinan. More than 150 schools were involved.
Currently, China is preparing for their next international challenges at the 2009 ACC Trophy Challengers Division and the 2010 Asian Games where, as the host, they will play against India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and 3 other Asian teams. Selection of players was conducted in Beijing, Shenyang, Shanghai and Tianjin.
The Chinese Cricket Association has set itself other goals over the next 14 years, described by some as optimistic. [2] A list of these goals follows:
2009: Have 720 teams across the country in a well-organised structure
2015: Have 20,000 players and 2,000 coaches
2019: Qualify for the World Cup
2020: Gain Test status

Believe me if the Japanese or Chinese Start playing Cricket you will see records breaking every day...These people are very athletic

The Japanese Rugby team have some amazing talents on their. Would like to see Cricket expand in these nations as well.

I'm suprised we don't get more associate players like Jeff Wilson representing their country at both rugby and cricket.

China has potentially the most optimistic future in the game. If an organisation manages to organise the spreading of the game and the necessary equipments etc then due to the massive population they could potentially become one of the best nations very quickly.

Just when Hong Kong finally thought they could beat China at something...:D

Nah, I've heard about this ages ago. Will be great for cricket with a bigger fan base. And you all know you want to hear Chinese commentators at a T20 match...that would be awesome!!! I haven't heard any sporting commentators get more worked up over anything than Chinese commentators...they'll be excited for a dot ball!

China's goal is to get Test Status by 2020!!!:rtfl:rtfl This is so bullshit! It is 2009 already, and most of their people still don't know how to hold a bat. :rtfl:rtfl:rtfl

Imagine if cricket become popular in both China and India. It will become the most popular sport by shear numbers. 2,5-3 billion people playing the sport would be crazy.
