I'm Indian, been to India, (obviously) have family in India, and can safely say it isn't safe at all.

You say we've had no bomb attacks since the Mumbai Terrorist attack - pfft. We have had no attacks you have hear about. There are terrorist attacks every day, bomb blasts, killings, mugging, assassinations. And the police in most parts is nothing more than a label stuck on a group of corrupt officials who barely do anything, or are too scared to act cause they know it is futile to mess with some of these small, yet dangerous, organisations. People are kidnapped, killed, attacked and robbed pretty much every hour. Apart from the big commercial hubs, where you are just more likely to get robbed than killed, India isn't a safe place to visit at all.

As for the cricket, mostly no one will attack the grounds or hotels, and security will be high for the players, but you cannot guarantee safety. It would be far safer in places like UK, NZ, Aus, WI.

At the very least, in India there is enough trouble with worrying about the crowd rioting or the public going on strike or something during a match. Small things like those can ruin a tournament, and you would probably not face them in other parts of the world.

Only reason people may say Pakistan is worse is because Pakistan's security isn't as good as India's. But apart from that, they are equally bad. India just has a bigger population, and certain big commercial areas that can be considered safe (Or could be considered safe, not anymore after the Mumbai attacks), and has more of a financial draw.

That is way over the top. You might have been to India, but I've been living in India all my life, and I certainly don't feel insecure over here. And that despite your comments on the police being absolutely right. I agree all is not well here, but it is not as bad as you make it out to be. And what, there are terrorist attacks every day here? Can you post some links that will prove that every day bit? Sure it is not as safe as Britain or the US. But then, if you do step out of your house, the possibility that you might get robbed or assassinated is no higher here than in the US or the UK. I mean the UK and the US have better police, so is it fair to expect then that there will be/should be no robberies or assassinations in those countries? I think that would be paranoia. And if one is indeed so paranoid about losing one's life then I guess riding a motorbike or driving a car would be no different than traveling to an apparently 'insecure' destination, let alone traveling by plane.

I live in the world's official most dangerous non-warzone .

:eek: Where? In India? Or in your dreams? Really, this is something waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the top. Please don't post any false facts. This is really annoying. Where's the link?

Look at my post King Cricket. I provide evidence for major terrorist attacks which occured last year

You're getting so wound up by national pride. It is the Aussie Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's job to know this sort of information. They will have people out there, looking at everything including security plans. Anyway, looking at this site by the government, I can see why the Aussie Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is saying this. I didn't know so many bombs happened in Indis last year. I think myself and my gf might not go there now in the summer. Looks like it is Australia instead. Much safer :D

India travel advice

And if you are too lazy to read that, this'll sum it up:

From 26-29 November 2008 terrorists attacked a number of sites in Mumbai, including luxury hotels, a railway station and a restaurant.

- Over 190 people were killed and more than 325 were injured. British Nationals were among the casualties.
- On 30 October 2008, 11 bombs exploded in Assam. Areas affected were Guwahati and the Barpeta, Bongaigoan and Kokrajhar districts. 77 people were killed and over 300 were injured.
- On 21 October 2008, a bomb exploded in Imphal, Manipur killing 17 people and injuring many others.
- On 27 September 2008, a bomb exploded in New Delhi. Two people were killed and 24 were injured.
- On 13 September 2008 five bombs exploded in New Delhi, 30 people were killed and 90 were injured.
- On 26 July 2008 a series of bombs exploded in Ahmadabad, Gujarat and the surrounding area resulting in up to 49 fatalities and over a 100 injured.
- On 25 July 2008 there were a series of bomb blasts in Bangalore, South Eastern India resulting in at least two fatalities and many more injuries.
- On 13 May 2008, there were a series of bomb blasts in Jaipur, western India, resulting in 60 fatalities and 200 casualties.

I am all for the next World Cup being in Australia until India/Pakistan appears slightly more safe

You do realise that more than half the stuff that happens in the slums and lower-class parts of India never gets reported, right?

And if you want, I could give you one news story, every day, of violent riots, attacks, and killing happening in India, from my local newspaper alone. Nothing major, maybe just 10-20 killed, but it happens.

UK, Australia, NZ...
Most developed countries..........

Agreed that the likelihood of being alive than dead is better in developed countries. But then again what might be the ratio of such incidences to the population of these countries to that of non developed ones?

Also if being developed means better security, then how come London was bombed, how did 9/11 come to be?

The World Cup should be staged outside the subcontinent, but not so much because the security in India has collapsed, rather because in the current political climate here, such a major event would prove to be a high profile target for the terrorists. Also the logistics involved in providing security to the teams across the subcontinent are mind boggling. In this we maydo our best and might yet fall short.

India is safe. No cricketer goes ambling into the slums in the middle of the night to get caught and killed. No sane person, in fact. Just like you wouldn't go into a Ghetto in the US.

It's just common sense.

And to the terrorist attacks. Those guys are coming from another country and terrorizing our nation. There are steps to eradicating this, but no country, not even Britain, Australia, US, Canada, whatever, are safe from these.

Ay, I made the point that cricketers will be safe. I was just saying that India is as bad as Pakistan in a lot of places. Pakistan is as safe as India I feel for cricketers, but if you are going to say Pakistan is terrible in general, well, the same applies to India. And if Pakistan is considered unsafe, so should India. It's only politics that keeps teams going to India and not Pakistan.

Exactly what I think. The cricketers might be safe, but what about all the fans who travel there as well? They won't have armed guards protecting them

I disagree. Terrorist attacks are far more frequent in Pakistan than India. Most of the terrorists are from that region. You don't see guys just being shot left right and center in India or Pakistan, but the terrorist attacks in Pakistan are far more frequent.

As per the fans, they should be safe as well. Thousands of tourists come to India each year :). If you are referring it to 26/11, then It's not really a valid argument because that was like a 1 in 1000 event, similar to 9/11.

We have our fair share of things as well - but they usually happen in the slum region, such as gang violence in any ghetto or something you'll find in 'developed' nations.

I think Pakistan is safe for cricket now, but precautions should be taken into consideration...
