Windows 7 - Will it be the best of Microsoft?

You need to order by sep 1st otherwise prices are going up to the normal RRP price.

Cheers for the heads-up. I thought it was later than that. Think I'm going to go for Pro.

Edit: I've ordered Ultimate. It's only ?10 more than pro.

I think you would've been able to run XP off any other virtual machine software, too (such as Sun's VirtualBox or VMWare). Windows XP Mode is just a Windows XP Pro SP3 virtual machine running of Windows Virtual PC 2007.

yep, the prices of windows 7 have gone up from ?65 to ?129 for Home premium. The others have gone up to ?185 and ?195 today as well.

I would be getting Home Premium for free.. Recently bought a Dell notebook, with Vista, and they have a free upgrade program. :)

Snow Leopard is only for Apple users, right? If yes, not interested. I am not moving away from PC from atleast the next 5-6 years.

My brother got a free Windows 7 Professional version from his university (seems they have a MSDN subscription). He says Windows 7 is awesome (he is not a big Windows fan, mind it). Seems like the RTM is even better than the RC's and the beta's.

Well... obviously. RTM is essentially what they're going to be selling so it would be weird if it was worse than the test versions.

Well, what I meant was that I thought the RTM wont be too much different from the RC (ie. the improvements in RTM over RC wont be too much noticeable or whatever) but from what I heard, the improvements are noticeable and good, it seems.

Meh, I wasn't a fan. He seems to have written that just to get compliments of not being a fanboy of either side.

sohum added 0 Minutes and 52 Seconds later...

Well I haven't noticed them. I used both Beta and RC before the RTM, and all of them were the 64-bit edition run on basically the same hardware. It's still slick and it's still miles better than Vista.

Wow, didn't know about this price hike. I wanted to get Windows 7. Now, MS can shove it right back up their jacksie.

Don't think I can use the cheaper upgrade option as my PC is on XP Select, which is in effect XP Pro SP3, but I don't know if it's different or not.
