I have a problem

This is probably the strangest thing I have ever read...

It's probably an Australian dominance hang-over, there were great players dominating, now they're all gone and you don't want to see us compete anymore.

Quite un-patriotic I might add.

It's ok, I ALWAYS want Daniel Flynn to get a duck, and he doesnt seem to dissapoint:p
Its a bit different when you want your National team to lose, I mean its just weird. I cant think of myself cheering when the opposition score a try against the All Blacks.

Yeah, individual players yes and even certain teams but not the National team.

i go for Australians in every other sport and league just not International Cricket. Its weird. i know. I started watching after the Perth Test against South Africa 2005. I loved our 5-0 Thrashing of England, i was gutted losing the CB Series to England and the Chappell Hadlee to NZ. I also loved watching us demolish everyone in the World Cup. But the Chappel Hadlee later that year than the demolishing of Sri Lanka i was getting tired of it. Then watching us only score 300 against India and collapse at the MCG amazed me. I had never seen us under pressure before and it was enjoyable. I was finally seeing a contest. Clarkes Golden arm in Sydney made me upset that india didnt draw. Finally someone put up a fight but we thrashed them again. Then after that i have never been happy for an Australian win since.

I like the contraversy but i dont want to hate them anymore.

Its quite normal. With the media around, it plays a part in development of opinions or influences existing ones. Everyone likes a good contest and yes, an ill-tempered match like the Clarke thing in the Sydney game you talked about, pretty much leaves a bad taste in the mouth of all people. "Winning at all costs" can have a lot of negative overtones to it and sadly some bad things did happen in that game.

A good contest is always THE thing to watch. Don't worry. You will be back to being patriotic again (Did the Benn thing make you think about posting this topic?).

Also, I must add, you are one of the better Aussie fans around. You put things in perspective and you are neutral with your opinions (ref to the Clarke thing as I don't think many people would have done that). Its a pretty welcome thing. :)

I must admit at times i've done the same, when Styris & Oram get out cheaply, or when Patel and Mills get carted around the ground all day. It's just comes off as, one of those "I told you so" moments when it happens.

Gotta love Rahuldravidfan.

In his opinion, the only good Australian supporters are the ones that don't even follow Australia and cheer for the other team. Not sure how that makes him 'one of the better Aussie fans around'.

RDF.. you are a good bloke, so let's just keep this banter to the Cricket Discussion section and elsewhere on the forum we can be fine with each other. ;)

Blakey... congrats on interpreting it the way you did. If you read it again, even you would laugh at your interpretation coz no comparison's were made with any Aussie fan and by saying that he doesn't even follow Australia and cheers the other team, you really sealed the reply with a touch of unmatchable wit. Very smart and accurate there buddy. Keep up the good work :clap

I have no problems with banter. And now if you are done appreciating me, lets get back to helping F1man out here. :)

I've got like that with the England Rugby Team, I want them to lose just so we can get the attitude right and get the correct set of players in the team playing good rugby!

I don't really have allegiance to any of the cricket playing nations, so I just watch cricket for good bowling (sometimes batting). Perhaps just try to watch the sport from a technical point of view and study it.

Another sure fire way to root for a team is to bet on them. So just put a healthy wager on AUS and you'll be sure to root for them.

sometimes you have to be careful. I spent a summer whinging about samaraweera being given more chances for Sri Lanka a couple of years ago, just after the australia series in particular.

and now look at him, he's started playiing really well.

I must say I kind of do hope players like Flynn, Patel, Oram etc fail but as long as NZ wins its ok. :laugh

As for the All Blacks I always cheer for the team playing against them doesn't matter who it is I will even support Australia over them. If rugby died over here we would be so much better in just about every other sport but instead we choose to boost our egos in a sport nobody else really cares about.

I agree, I really hope we choke again in the WC, because I think it would be a significant enough blow to finally give Cricket, Football & League a chance to gain an increase in media exposure, sponsorship money & government funding that the NZRU has a stranglehold on.

Yeah I derfinately do hope Flynn comes back better and becomes a good batsman, but hes been given too many chances and he needs to go back to domestic

Agree with your first comment, I always want the black caps to win no matter whos in the team.
As for the all blacks, its pretty much the same, I will always cheer for them. Except I wanted the Baa Baas to win for some reason! lol:)
