Left 4 Dead 2: Banned in Australia by Australian Classification Board

how the hell do you lot sit crammed in a small chair looking at a tiny screen when we sit on the couch and play on massive HD TVs

There are pros and cons for both. If you want to start a console vs PC thing then prepare for me to own you
I don't. I sit around 8 feet away from my 26" screen. Granted its not big as an HDTV, but its not that big a con.

I'd be interesting in you trying to own me in this though. Lets take it to the PC vs Console thread!

In fact, most proper PC gamers have at least a 19in widescreen these days. Hardly a 'tiny screen'.

Not exactly the same thing as a thoroughly borked control system for FPS games. Especially something like L4D, where the enemies on screen are probably more than any other game outside of the Total War Series.

Hmarka, you have a valid point... but seriously, using a controller is way harder than just using a mouse. It's ten times harder to aim, you can't change direction quickly.. I'd say that the big TV might be the only thing you have going for you.. ;)

Indeed.

Whereas PC has: superior versions usually, better graphics, modding, cheaper games and so on...

Yeah, I agree with you there MB. I guess they've taken up the stance "Oh, we want you to do all the work" but it's a little pathetic when the AI don't have minds of their own and instead just follow you weakly.

Have you played much online? Occasionally I play versus mode against other people, or when there are enough people I do a campaign mode online with my brother, and sometimes other people join.

Also, what's happening with new maps? Have people worked out how to make them yet in L4D2? I haven't been looking around really, so I don't have a clue, but it would be nice to see some more custom maps.. some more indoor ones wouldn't go astray. I think there's a few too many swamp levels in the game, where you just run through the swamp, blasting zombies, it rains a bit, etc.

Anyway, it's still a great game I think (coming from someone who has never played the first) and there's something strangely satisfying about killing zombies... with a shotgun. :spy

Well, it's supposed to be a whole new game, isn't it? ?26.99 at play.com - that's a full price release, not an expansion pack, which is what L4D2 feels like to me, going by the demo. Valve could've really added some decent AI to your squad and make singleplayer a lot more enjoyable.

I've played a lot of L4D online, but sometimes, I just don't want to hear or see people moaning all the time. Also, I'm crap at Versus - I'd like to be able to enjoy that offline and not be insulted every five minutes! I play games to have fun, not to be insulted. In fact, when it comes to actually hearing people talking in my games, I hate it. The game does its best to immerse me in this dreadful world, and then all I can hear are idiots shouting over their mics. And yes, I know you can mute them - you have to do it at the beginning of every game.

In all fairness though, the crap AI is pretty much down to the fact that L4D and L4D2 are pushed towards online gaming. Its true what they say about needing teamwork, at times it needs to be flawless! Talking and making plans is a big part in the game, I've sacrificed myself hundreds of times on both games in order for us to win.

No its really not, using a control pad is the proper way to play the likes of L4D and the CoD series. Seriously all you PC-aholics, they're made for emailing, msn'ing, foruming it up...oh and Football Manager, not FPS or other genres, get yourself an Xbox or PS3 and come into the modern world!

Simbazz, if we were to have a duel of sorts - you using a controller, and me using mouse and keyboard, I would be extremely confident of victory. There's so much stuff you can just do so much faster with a keyboard - you can aim with precision, turn around in a flash and find decent cover anywhere. I'm a disgrace at Call of Duty on PS3, I find it incredibly hard to aim, where as if I had a mouse I would immediately just swivel, hit the spot in about 0.3 seconds and kill.

Well, that was a bit in-depth, but... mouse + keyboard > controller.

LOL After accepting all those points and accepting that Consoles are really good machines for gaming, I think what you said about Controllers being the proper way to play FPS is a bit over the top. It cracked me up!

Well since I'm overseas. I decided to purchase L4D 2 (Along with Dragon Age: Origins, Borderlands, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Halo: ODST, Assassins Creed 2 and Dynasty Warriors 6; all for the 360), you think they'd let me bring it back to Australia?

They don't care. Believe me. As long as it's not kids porn. Which I know none of those are they just let you back in.

Cheers. Gonna' be awesome. I actually gave me Australian copy back to EB prior to my going on holiday. Screw the anti-disembowelment.

Agreed.

Gamespot has also agreed that Mouse+ Keyboard is better than controllers for FPS games and it's enough for a proof.

Not to argue, but controllers are MUCH MUCH better to play a game with than a mouse and keyboard.

Kids, you all need to grow up and realise this.

Different genres of games have different input methods which are considered best for gaming. It does also depend on personal taste. Surely controllers are much better than keyboards and mouse for Sports, Racing and maybe other genres. But Controllers > Keyboard and Mouse for FPS? You've got to be kidding me man. I grow 80 years and it doesn't make a difference.

Controllers for L4D2 (Keeping this badboy on topic) are far superior to the long outlived mouse/keyboard combination. A controller has the ease factor, all the buttons are in convenient locations whereas a keyboard has multiple keys which, in situations, you could press the wrong one and mess it right royally up!

Kshitiz, you have your opinions, but with the rate that console gaming is going (probably because of the piracy PC games have) it'll run over PC gaming in no time, theres hardly ANY games which are exclusive to PC gaming, except the likes of Football Manager etc. proving that console control pads are the way forward. People are paying money to get an Xbox 360 adaptor to use it on a PC.

We were debating about the usability and comfort of controllers for FPS'. Dunno where that last para came into the debate my friend. No one is debating the general friendliness, success and ease of console gaming. We're just saying that Mouse and Keyboard > Controllers for FPS or for that matter even games like Vice City.

Keyboard has too many buttons but the general buttons that one uses in a FPS are WASD, and the two mouse clicks. And of course, anyone can set the other keys as an where they like.
